Newbie Tranny Question

I am about to become the proud papa of a 76 Bronco, and have some need of technical assistance. Currently it sports a nice running 390 mated to a three speed. I am planning to swap the big block for a 302, and am looking for recommendations on a transmission, since I'm told the BB won't mate to the SB. This will become an every day driver in the future, so I want something which will give me highway driveability, but still work when I need the 4wd. Budget-wise, I'd like to do a one for one swap with the current tranny. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Phil.., welcome.....

1st. I commend you for moving to a more suitable eng.

Everything you need to return to stock is avail. out there in boneyards & 5-6 EB stores throughout the country.

Most of what you need can be "used" & will work just fine.

Stock (or slight mod.) 302 eng., motor-mounts., Ford 3.03 3 speed., D-20 transfer-case., drivelines, etc.

Should be easy on the wallet comparatively.

Thanks for the suggestions. The guys built this thing for a beach dune cruiser. They also removed the coil spring/I-beam combo in favor of leaf springs. Haven't driven, so I'm not sure how practical that setup is for the road. First thing is to get the brakes redone. At least it has power-assisted discs on the front.

If you want quality help here., do fill in your info. pages (as you see below my message)

Include any & all you know about your rig. (It can always be changed)

It saves repeated questions to you & suggestions related to items that aren't even there. i.e. saves a lot of wasted time.

Some knowledgeable folks won't answer if they have to guess at everything.

It shows with every post., automatically....

OUCH..!! /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> It never had an "I-beam" but this can all be put back to stock. B)

He was an "engunner" alright----early 1900's & his name was "RUBE GOLDBERG"..!!

Not that that set-up won't work for ya.., it's just that it's a step backwards.

The Ford EB was ahead it's time & of the other folks @ going to coils in the front.

Great ride, good articulation, etc., etc....

Anyway.., go ahead & use it as is...unless/until it doesn't please you. Just make sure it's not cracked or rotted anywhere. (safety first)

Start a new thread, as it appears you're past the trannie problem.

Then include the info. under your name as well...location, etc.
