Catalyitic Converter Removal

Does anyone know anything about taking off the cats from a 94 302, I've heard that its good on the 80's broncos, but bad for the newer years. Any type of advice would be appreciated, cause I have flowmaster 40's on it now, but its really quiet and I want some more sound and power will this help?? :huh:

I took mine off with a reciprocating saw.... B) .....built my own exhaust from there back and dumped it out in front of the rear tires. I put on thermal headers and true dual exhaust. Sounds great, seems like I feel a difference in the power too but beware the highway patrol. :-"

If you have any type of inspection where you live they won't pass it without a catalytic converter on it.Most places in the U.S. it is illegal to remove the converter and almost no garages will remove it.I know in Connecticut they will fail any vehicle without a converter that originally had one.You could probably try to hollow it out (still illegal) but you have a better chance since the converter shell is still there,but it may effect the emissions readings enough to fail it.If you don't have inspection then your good to go.

I'm lucky, in PA the older vehicles don't have to get plugged into a machine for emissions testing. It goes by sight - if it's there, you're good. Doesn't really matter if it's functional or not.

In Texas, some counties have emisions testing and some do not although the entire state has safety inspections. My home state, New Mexico, has no inspections. That sounds great, but if you ever go there, check out the junk heaps rolling up and down the streets, and you will see why so many states do have them.

am doing that on my 95 5.0, work in a mechanic shop n my boss recamended it so in a few weeks im guna take out my catalitic converters and put straight pipes to my new flowmaster muffler i installed yesterday,then im gunna get hedders, according to my boss the owner and mechanic of my shop says it should sound sick.

I have a friend w/ a lifted 94 F150. He took his cats off and still managed to pass the emmisions test here. As long as it will pass w/o I don't see why it should be a problem. If possible, make friends with an inspection/emissions mechanic! That always helps too /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

One thing to do is holow out your cats and shove a piece of pipe through them and weld it in. that way it's straight pipes and it looks legal. hehe. :-"

HOW LONG IS THE STOCK CONVERTER? CUZ IM GUNNA REPLACE IT WITH STRAIGHT PIPE AND WAS NOT SURE IF IT WAS 16" OR SOMETHING ELSE
