hello,

i own a 79 ford bronco, and i have the original limited slip rear end that came in it from the factory. i live up in michigan, and i'm a big dunes guy. i was wondering, what would be better for me up here? the axle i have, or a locker? i was thinking about a locker for a long time, till i got out my identification code book and found i had a limited slip rear end. i'm really leaning toward keeping the limited slip cause i'm a poor college kid right now. i have ordered a 4in skyjacker lift kit, and will be looking for tires shortly. however, like i said money is an issue being in college, and i think i'm leaning toward my limited slip, but i'm just wondering what would be better for what i'm doing. saving the 500 bucks on a locker and putting that toward bfg all terrains will help big time. do limited slip axles hold their own in moderate wheeling? i'm not a ******** wheeling, and seeing as my bronco is all original, i don't want to beat it up. i just want to get some big tires and a 460, and make it pretty kicking for cruising the dunes. thanks ford brothers! any info would help. peace

lockers have their own quirks, a ltd. slip is good, but the ford trak loc wears out in around 50.000 mi. they will need new clutch packs . If yours is still working , you are very fortunate, they will usually only survive for one season of wheelin' up here, we play hard in mud, I don't know what they're like in sand. We all run lockers up here, personaly I run a detroit in the rear & a ltd.slip in the dana up frt. A cheaper way to go, they are easy to find used, maybe leave your rear alone if it's working, & find a used dana spool, depending on your gear ratio , the split is at 390:1, they're easy to find, look in dodge rears. Good luck ,I hope this helps. :)>-

I would have to disagree with that. I have had trac-lock's last alot longer than that. As long as you use the correct gear oil and keep up regular pm's on them they will last for along time. Basicly depends on the owner, and how you treat youre equipment.
