asked this question before but, yeah after all that hassle to get, sand and repaint it- i hate the outside tire carrier. so since i'm getting my lift and 35's tomorrow it'll be useless anyhow and i'll be removing it next weekend (it is complete and i will sell it by the way PM w/ offer if interested).

so my question is who has an original inside carrier? and was wondering of you would have a pic for me to look at. just for reference purposes.

also if i were to convert it, does the inside carrier have any special internal supports like the outside carrier? or does it just bolt in? will it hold a 35 and lastly anyone know offhand where i may be able to locate one? other than a junkyard of course...if i could even find one around here.

thanks.

hahaha, and I just put my outside carrier back on cause I was sick of having that 33 in the back, takes up so much room.

I've had an inside carrier for several years now. I like it and I don't like it, if that ain't schizophrenic @-) , I like it inside because I don't like the look of a tailgate carrier, I don't like it because of the wasted space issue. However, I have decided to live with a little less space in favor of a cleaner outside, (picture attached).

It attaches very easily. There are two factory installed weld nuts for the legs and the side attaches to the inside quarter panel structure with a self tapping bolt. You can find one in most car recyclers or someone in the forum probably has one they will be willing to sell. I think the largest tire that will fit on the inside carrier is 31 inches with the back seat in. that doesn't bother me since I now have 31's on it and with 33's the 31 inch spare is OK in a pinch, never had to use it though. Also with 33's I had to get a jack out of F350 in order to get one that would lift the tire off the ground without being either propped up or at max up extension.

Good luck,

yeah my main concern was cargo space. i may have to figure something else out rather than have it flailing around in the cargo area back there. maybe just devise a way to bolt it down flat to the bed. then at least i can have SOME room and don't have to worry about it flying around back there if somethig goes wrong.

i'm sure the outside carrier won't hold a 35 without shearing the tailgate. and the outer carrier just makes me nervous back there clunking around with a 31 on there much less a 35.

thanks guys.

i may take you up on that one! pm me with details on how i can get you the $$$ and what s&h would be to 91606 and i'll either paypal you the money or send you a money order- whichever you prefer. s&h should probably be fairly cheap.

i know it may not be equipped to handle a 35 but, maybe i can adapt it for a 35 OR even a 33 and go out to the scrapyard and find a decent used tire to use in a pinch.

I also saw another bronco on here with a roof rack that held a spare. i know it's wouldn't be the best with wind resistance and all but it might look cool.

check your PM's i sent you some info. i still have the carrier. actually 2 of them -one totally complete. the other complete except for the top outer bracket (called the support) the bar locks onto that mounts to the outside of the upper tailgate. anyhow yes i still have the totaly complete one. just sanded and repainted it about a month or so ago looks brand new practically. it is fairly heavy weighs around 60lbs +/-. the member i bought it from had it shipped DHL and it ran $60, so make me an offer and we'll talk.

still havent figured out what i'm gonna do about this one. i'll figure it out i guess when i actually GET a 33 or 35 spare in a couple weeks. probably go to a used tire shop though and pick one up for about $30. there has to be a way to mount it somewhere back there without taking up the whole bed. i like the mount that firelt posted but, it is pricey for what it is and it would glut the entire cargo area.

my buddy at work who is a fellow bronco owner (even though his need a lot of work) is a good fabricator and him and i are brainstorming the idea. i'll let you know what we figure out.

Hi everybody,

I found your forum while searching for an inside tire carrier on the internet. I'm from Switzerland and I own a '91 Bronco 5.8l Eddie Bauer.

I don't like the outside tire rack either and so I'm looking for an inside one but found it to be difficult to get. So if you still got yours and would be ready to send it to Switzerland, I'd be very thankful and would pay you a good price as well as the shipping, of course.
