I have gotten myself in quite a bind. I am in need of KNOWLEDGE... I am the owner of a 1990 Bronco that seems to have a little bit of a conflict going on between Engine and its EEC (Please correct me if I am wrong on terminoligy). This beauty is cranking and starting, then the RPM starts to spike up a bit to about 1700, then increases to about 2800rpm, and so on up to about 3k. Then fluxuates from there on out until stalling a bit later... Need some help on my love/hate relationship with "Black Betty", how do I fix things?? If I find a way to get the videos on here I will post it or whatever needed to get some good info out of yall.

yo 99,

WELCOME!

Try a Self Test for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)s by my pal, BroncoJoe19

http://broncozone.com/topic/14269-code-reader/?pid=74587&mode=threaded

A helper is good to assist in reading Codes; best is to take a cell fone vid and replay it.

Some basics;

Visual Check

Battery is fully charged & connectors and grounds are clean

Inspect the air cleaner and inlet ducting.

Post any Code(s) found.

This is by Ford for 94, but appl. to your 90;

Fast Idle

Thanks! I'm still a little new to this truck, and theres been a few problems.. First thing was a fuelfilter, (luckily) then there was a Distributor problem and when I changed out the Rotor and electronic thingy, and accidentally forgot to mark my distributor... Lesson learned that I didnt know how to mark it. Timing was set by a decent mechanic and for him, and he got introduced to another problem. After setting the timing perfectly the idle RPM would skyrocket to 3k RPM... So his solution was to unplug the throttle sensor, Which worked for almost a week... Found a Bronco Whisperer.(He is currently on vacation), but before he left he had a chance to find out that my 1990 has the wiring harness of a 1992. I really do think the computer is messing up my ride and I need help finding the Upgrade from the 1990 EEC to a compatible 1992 computer (I forget the correct name). How do I narrow down what will work with my ride?

yo 99,

Here is what I sent to you via PM response to swapping the 90 to 92 wiring harness - I JUST ADDED MORE INFO)

I believe it will work;

here are the EEC (Electronic Engine Control IV; aka Electronic Control Module (ECM) IV or Computer Connector Pin Depiction Pic

Use the 89-95; E4OD Additions; Speed Density Column

(3rd Column from Right side)

Wiring Diagram;

90 Bronco 5.0 automatic trans; http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/Wd/DownloadPdf?id=17414

92 Bronco 5.0 auto; http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/Wd/DownloadPdf?id=9237

I see that the EEC diagrams are same for PIN numbers and colors (looked at sample of 4 wires on each year as a shortcut).

Most full service yards that use Hollander Interchange can get an EEC for you; ensure $ back warranty

For a YARD SEARCH on-line, I use;

http://www.hollanderparts.com/

Select All Parts

year, etc, then FORD TRUCK

go to Electrical - Engine-Motor Control Module

Select Engine Size and if California or Federal Emissions

See if you still have the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) Decal on top of radiator support or attached to hood. It should indicate whether the Bronco was built to U.S. EPA regulations or Calif Emission standards

BUT you will need to tell the yard if you have an automatic trans and type (AOD or E4OD) OR a manual transmission.

See E4OD, AOD & C6 Pan Identification & Driver Side pics;

Source: by Kenneth at http://www.technicalvideos.com/identify_my_transmission.phtml

AOD have 14 pan bolts

E4OD have 20 pan bolts

Some buy rebuilt EECs from parts store; usually are CARDONE rebuilts.

yo,

Forgot to incl. this VECO Label

wp_000477.jpg

by J OWENS, as an example.

Near the bottom, you'll see the "This vehicle conforms to U.S. EPA regulations...

if built to Calif. Regs, it would state it
