Bike Carriers

I have the spare tire on the outside of my truck, does anyone know if a bike carrier (the type that fit into the 2" reciver slot) will have enough clearance? Or do they make some special version that adjusts horizontally? Another option in my head was to go to a machine shop and have them weld an extention, has anyone ever done somthing like that before? Any comments would be appreciated.

Dont know if anyone makes one that is adjustable, but welding an extension on and drilling a hole through it would take even a semi-skilled welder only a few minutes to do.

I would go that route, any company that sells an adapter or an adjustable carrier with milk you for that luxury, weld an extension on or find someone to do it for you. Probably cost you a case of beer.

Why don't you just pull out the back seat and put the bike in there?

Or throw the spare tire in the back the carrier itself doesnt stick out past the bumper so it still should fit with out modification

As it turns out i didnt' need to do any of those things (camping gear is in the back of the truck). I got a Thule carrier used from the paper and it actually fits just fine without any modification, there is about 6 inches between the spare and the carrier.
