auto trans

I have a 78 f250 with a 460/c6. I blew the tranny apart, literally. Will a auto tranny from a 87 f250 2wd mate up to my transfercase and transfer case adapter, or do I have to stick with an older c6? Dont know much about tranny's so any help on options would ne appreciated. Thanks

You have to change out the output shaft from the 4X4 trans to the 4X2 trans in order to use the t-case adapter for the t-case. Which means you have to take apart two trannys. If you can take both of them apart you may as well rebuild the one you have in the 4X4.

The case is broken on the one in my truck. Will the output shafts interchange between the different years?

the shafts will interchange. a c-6 is a c-6
