5.8 not 5.6, stupid fingers!

I wonder if a leak at the intake manifold would cause this>

I am getting steam/white smoke after it sits and cools off.

After it clears up it runs great, smooth idle, no coolant in oil.

None of the unseal signs of head gasket failure.

!990, around 72K miles, I am original owner.

Hi to all, my first post.

It's not very likely. The 5.8 intake only has coolant passages at the corners of the intake manifold. I would expect a leaking intake would put coolant in the oil. A head gasket can leak slowly enough to cause your symptoms. To get a better idea of what you have going on we need more details like where the steam/smoke is comming from, are you having to add coolant have you checked the plugs for signs of coolant, have you pressure tested the cooling system ?

Steam/smoke is coming out of tailpipe.

Have not done a leak down test. It has been losing coolant for some time, Staring idling rough after a cold start, thought maybe a injector was leaking.

Probably take it to local independent garage, tell them :fix it, call me"

I am too damn old to muck about with it.

Changing plugs/wires was a major project.

Getting old sucks, but so does the alternative!

Thanks for reply.

Yeah, I guess so.

Interesting that after rough running start up it smooths out in about a minute, runs great, idles smooth.

That is why I was wondering about water entering the intake.

72K on the thing,, think I will go for head rework, new timing chain, water pump, etc

After all thes years it is like a family member being ill!
