It never feels like it locks into 4-H. A light push of the shifter will push it out of 4wd. It is obvious that the wheels don't grab in the snow when it slips out. The 4x4 light goes out. Speed is 10 to 20 MPH. Anyone else experienced the problem? Thanks a Mill. JERRY

I don't have a definite answer for you, but the first thing I would check is the linkage. It sounds like it is not getting fully into 4x4 HI. Internally there is a shift cam that detentes when the shifter lever is moved to the various positions. From the sound of it, it doesn't move far enough to detente into the 4x4 Hi position which is at the extreme end of the cam. It could be any of a number of things that are causing it, like a loose connection, worn pivot, etc.

Good luck,

:)>-

Mine did the same thing, so I checked the tranny mounts first as advised, then I re-adjusted the shifter. It's pretty easy, locate the large nut on the tranny( drivers side) it's a 1 1/8" box end if I remember right( big ass wrench). Put transfer case in 2 hi loosen nut about 2 turns, place shifter to four low and re tighten nut. Worked for me. Hasn't come out of 4hi yet. Hope this helps.
