Yes, you have to have a steering wheel puller to take the old wheel off, they are on there pretty good. As for the push rod, it has a retainer clip in there that will probably get mangled when you pull it out. It really isn't needed because once everything is hooked up, it wont fall out, so you can just pull it out and go.

77, you should be able to "borrow" a wheel puller from your local auto parts supply house, many have rental programs.

As for the brake rod... push the nylon grommet out of the hole at the pedal end of the rod, clamp the m/c in a vice, put a bar or extension through the hole and pull.

If that doesn't work for you, while still using the extension or bar, hit the bar with a hammer, the rod should pop right out.

it is there for a reason tho, try and replace it if you can
Yeah, its there to **** you off  New MCs don't come with the rods anymore. The first time I replaced my MC, I finessed that thing out and the clip got bent. I massaged it back to form and put it back in. The 2nd time I had to replace the MC I pulled that sucker off and pitched it. All it does is keep the push rod from coming out easily. Now if you have enough play in your brake/clutch assembly to pull the push rod out, then you need to replace or rebuild the assembly. There isn't (or should not be) enough forward/rearward movement in the pedal to pull that rod all the way out. They are long enough that when everything is connected it cannot be pulled out. Like I said, that little clip is a pain in the A$$!!
