I figured I'd be able to find the science of it easily on the net but I cant. I am watching ebay for some headers and then i'm running dual exhaust. I love the muscle car big horsepower V8 sound, the big loping cam that barely idles but screams at higher rpm type. What does the x pipe do for sound and power?

i don't know much about the X pipe but i would go true dual, if it's legal. 2 straight pipes, one form each header al the way to the back of the beast. that is what i have on mine and you can't beat that sound

evens out the back pressure for each side of the engine so u don't have one side different than the other ie engine idles better i would use an H-pipe

so there is nothing connecting your two pipes together? Basically 2 isolated 4 cylinder motors right?

as mbtech stated using the H or X creates balance imagine if you partially restricted the intake side one head the isues that would arrise yes it would run but how well also thier are balanced headers yes they are a lot more expensive but the benefit is noticable and if keeping the truck leagal remember that both sides need a convertor if it was on original and if it has an O2 sensor the h pipe is a very easy place to mount it

all that said check LMC truck for "older" broncos they have a dual exhaust system ( all but the cat's) that I have seen installed with a good set of flowmassters and magna flow cats sound amazingly like my old chevelle from high school

The X and H pipe are for high performance. Which apparently they do quite well, I am not a fan however, to me they rob the engine of the true dual exhaust muscle car sound. Some say that you have two 4 bangers fighting each other, but I have never heard a 4 banger sound like my truck. True dual exhaust with no X or H pipe is the best sound you can get, in my opinion.

kinda like a loud tape recorder if you want sound but for the benefits do it right the sound is there if done the right way as well and your motor will be noticable different one way versus the other

is just my oppinion and not trying to argue
