1992 Bronco 4x4 351 4AOD: Ive been hearing a noise that sounds like a timing chain rattle on the timing cover. But it comes from somewhere possibly towards the front of the trans. This noise is very pronounced when at idle in park or neutral. It seems to go away when put into drive.

It might be the torque converter going bad, or even a bolt coming loose from the flexplate. That happened to me once on a Blazer, and drove me nuts until I found it. You can make your own stethoscope with a long piece of rubber hose, and put one end on the tranny and one to your ear. Just be safe, apply the parking brake, block the wheels, while you are under the truck and it's running. Listen to the engine, too, like on the valve covers, exhaust manifolds, etc. May just be an exhaust leak.
