Passenger power window / engine oil leak

Got my drivers side window working, but no luck with passenger window. After drilling holes to get motor off I pulled out motor and it worked fine in both directions. With window motor out I I was able to manually lift window by hand. However when I put motor back in the window moved a couple of inches and froze. Ant ideas?

Also I noticed a puddle of engine oil the other day. After cleaning old oil off I noticed it was dripping from the bottom of the torque converter. I attached a picture. After researching everyone suggested rear main seal? I thought rear main seal was on back side of transmission? A friend told me to check the oil level. It was an inch over the full mark. Do you think excess oil could have caused the leak due to excess pressure? Wanted to fix leak before I replace my front end steering so I can get her registered. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hey P02,

 The real main seal is at the back of the engine block, and seals the crankshaft.  Having the oil level too high will not result in higher pressure, but it could be the source of seepage from the main seal.  (It could also result in the oil getting whipped into a foam by the crankshaft...not good!)

I had the same problem when I first got The Beast.  Draining the oil to the correct level cured the problem, but I knew I had a weak seal, (occasional oil drips when parked on a grade).  I started using oil for "high mileage"  vehicles, and after the 2nd oil change, ( and maintaining the correct level.)  the seeping stopped. 

On the window:  If you are constantly getting the proper electric signal to the motor, I would suspect a weak motor, that runs when not under strain.  I believe they have an internal breaker to prevent damage as well.  I would check the electric connections again, and if they are all good, I would opt for a new motor.  Salvage yard motors are old like yours, and could work for a short time and then result in the same problem.  I found new motors of Ebay at reasonable prices.

One possibility is the wires being partially broken.  They often break where they get flexed, or partially break, after years of opening and closing the door.  If they are partially broken the motor may run when there is no resistance on the drive gear by the weight of the window but fail to supply enough current to the motor when the motor is mounted.  Attached is an electrical  diagram for power window.   It is from an 83 bronco, but Ford rarely  reinvented any of the wiring from year to year except for adding new devices .

They usually break in the middle of the rubber conduit between the A-post and the door.  You heed to pop out the conduit and give a good tug on each wire.  Usually if one is partially broken you will see it stretch or even break.

Pulled the window motor and opened her up. Are there supposed to be ball bearings or 8 hex nuts used as bearings? Previous owner was the master of rigging.
