Well the weather is here in Michigan and I want to take the top off my 96 XL. Any reccomendations on the best way to remove it?. I will be setting up a winch system in my garage in three weeks but i will use horses untill then. Also the best type of torx socket to use would be appreciated..my 9 and 11 year old sons can't wait to wear their goggles sitting in the back seat.

LOL... will they be Clydesdale horses? Frankly, I would ask a neighbor to give me a hand. It weighs about 150 pounds and is a little akward. Two neighbors would be even better. Probably too challenging for the kids.

I would loosen the bolt/screws with a wrench, and then ***** them out with my battery drill. Then get up in the tub, and lift it with your back (with your hands on your knees). ITs easy enough to do, take note that the clips are different for the left and right side, you might want to get an egg carton, and place them in it in the order that you take them out so that reassembly is easier.

BTW... Please post pictures of the horses :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Nah... 150 is about right. Two average size guys can handle it without much of a challenge. I helped my son carry his about 150 feet to put it in the back yard, without having to put it down to rest, 200 feet would have been a challenge though.

i take mine off by myself but its not pleasant. It would be alot easier if i just built a stand. I undo all the bolts and slide it back until its at its balance point, then just grunt and lift. I usually have some 2x6's on the ground to lay it on. If you are going to leave it off for an extended period of time you may want to think about bracing it. Just run some 2x4s across and bolt it so the sides dont warp.
