Front Hub

I just replace my hubs with warn premiums, got them from gowarn.com for the cheapest price anywhere, 93 shipped to my door. Install was easy, 6 allen screws and snap ring and a c-clip. My only advice would be a smallscrewdriver or two for the c clip and snap ring pliers for the snap ring, buy them if you dont have them, I did.

oh and by the way these hubs rock! The dial is is metal and it is almost a full turn for engagement, the only way to go IMO. The dial is metal though and not really room for gloved fingers, so snow wheeling may freeze my fingers to the hub, but oh well, skin grows back.

"How come the hubs on my 87-88 Bronco are different than other Broncos?

This was another of Ford's better ideas. For '87 and '88 Ford used a one-piece locking hub assembly. This hub simply sits between the wheel and brake rotor and is held in place by the wheel studs. This type of hub is very easy to remove (simply remove the wheel), but it is different from all other Broncos and therefore parts and replacement hubs are expensive and hard to find.

To convert your 87-88 Bronco to the "standard" hubs you'll need to swap all the parts from the spindle out from a Bronco or F-150. It may even be possible to take these parts from any vehicle with a Dana 44 front axle and the same wheel bolt pattern as the Bronco (5 on 5.5"). If you are considering this swap it would be a good time to consider the 8 lug axle swap you've always wanted (see section 10.2).

for the metal dial..i made a tool for my brother out of square tubing acts liek a wrench for turning it during the winter when packed with snow and its really cold..if you would like i can take a picture and send it to you

its pretty easy its just remembering where everthing goes when you take it off youll deffinatly need a special socket for removing the front hubs you can get them at auto zone ... i tell people this all the time when you replace them make sure you repack the bearings!!!!!!

Hey, just another question... I am looking at getting an 88 bronco (with a wornout hub). What are some trouble spots I should look at before purchasing. If any of ya'll have some thoughts I would really appreciate it. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

:wacko: Im a freakin idiot... I should have mentioned that the axle is not the stock one but a Dana 44. So with what I gather I would not use an 87-88 hub but any other in the 80-96 range, right? And then I can simply take the cover off with an allen key and replace them. Also will I have to jack up the front end for this? Either way you dont have to jack it up to replace the hubs after you take the cover off the hardest part is getting that damn C ring out of the hub so you can get the rest of the lockout out . /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i had a tough time getting the new snap ring in after the install, but that was the point where we bought a set of snap ring pliers, and then it was oooooooooook
