Alright, I am about ready to put this truck in the for sale section.......I have through process of elimination replaced parts to find out I needed a new distributor. btw 84' 5.0, when removing the old distributor everything seemed fine, i get home with the new one and try to install it. It goes all the way in, the gear engages and everything, but it wont seat the last 1/2 inch. Ultimately the intermediate shaft that runs from the oil pump to the distributor shaft, had unseated from the oil pump and was not seating in the dis. shaft. my problem is I really dont want to have to remove the oil pan, oil pump and the like to get the shaft reseated on the oil pump, and then come back topside to reinstall the dist. does anyone have a little trick that might help me here, or has anyone had the same problem?? the top of the int. shaft is surrounded by the bracket that holds the actual distributor shaft steady, so i cant get my fingers in there to reseat it, nor can i get a pair of needlenose in there. There is also a pin or clip at the bottom of the int. shaft that prevents me from pulling the shaft completely out through the top of the motor (due to the dist. bracket) I know I have wandered around on this post, but if anyone has ever ran into this problem they know what I am talking about........any solutions are greatly appreciated.

TIA

try getting a telescopic magnet, worked for me..its hard but its not immpossible.u cant pull it out through the top?mine came all the way out then i put a little grease on the end of the dist shaft to keep it in place,or use a LITTLE piece of pepper to keep it in place in th dist.mine fell in place..i think i know what clip your talking about but you should be able to get it all the way out if you need to.if the magnet sticks to the block then put some black tape around the outside of it not covering the end of it..good luck bro

i tried to pull the shaft completely out, the clip at the bottom just wont let me for some reason, i have the telescopic magnet, but you are saying to put a small piece of paper around the int. shaft, and then force it on the dist ?? if that is what I am getting of this, my only other question is with the shaft on the dist, will it seat where it needs to in the oil pump??

Thanks for the quick response
