De-FI-ing an 88

Due to the fact that I am a pretty good basic mechanic on older stufff but have no knowledge or experience on FI, computers, reading codes, etc and am getting too old to worry about learning much new stuff. I was thinking about removing my FI and replacing with say a Edelbrock Intake and carb, Mallory ignition, etc. There by getting rid of the computer stuff. I did this to an 81 Vette and had no problems. Have any of you done this? Any advice? Tips?

I did this to my '90 bronco although I replaced the entire engine and transmission. The only issue that I had was:

- Either need a fuel pressure regulator or a new fuel pump for the carb. I started with a regulator but had a lot of issues. Finally switched to a low pressure fuel pump and everything works great. This involved dropping the fuel tank and removing the old pump and re-routing the fuel lines with braided. I just used braided cause I like to spend money, rubber should work just fine.

- If you're OK with wiring the ignition and fuel pump, I really don't see any major problems.

Yeah I figured I would put a LP fuel pump on. Shouldn't be too much problems I don't think. Haven't decided yet whether I will do this or not but if I run into any fuel injection or computer problems I probably will cause I just don't know enough about that stuff. I will update how it goes if I do it.

You won't need to worry about the C-6 tranny, as far as the ECm goes since the ECM (computer) only controls the engine functions on your 88. You will need to change from the tranny kicdown cable to a kickdown rod when switching to a carb. JSM84

Good call...I got mine from an old F-150 in a junkyard.
