I bought my Bronco about a year ago and when I bought it, the check engine light was always on. The previous owner said he wasn't sure what it was but it ran fine and he was right. So, I took it to my buddy's shop and we ran the code and it came up "Heater O2 sensor". We all scratched our heads and weren't sure what that meant. I left it alone because it's been ok to drive, but I'm starting to think that it may be the cause of a few issues I have. If I'm going up a large grade, sometimes and I mean SOMETIMES it'll kick down to the secondaries and even worse other times she won't even kick down and I'm just cuggin' along. Anyone know what it could be?

Also, I plan to do my exhaust here real soon, so maybe that'll help. Where have some of you purchased your exhaust parts(aside from summit and jegs). I need th know where to get the y-pipe.

Thanks in advance and sorry about the long post

yo,

Our 96's have 4 Oxygen Sensors; do you still have the Code?

if not,a guess, most likely the O2 sensor on driver's side exhaust manifold is the bad one. These usually go first. See figure1 in this:

DRIVEABILITY - HO2S (HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR), CATALYST, AND FUEL SYSTEM MONITORS - SERVICE TIPS - OBD II VEHICLES ONLY - 96 Bronco, TSB 01-9-7 Source: by Ford via Ryan M

Note that a few things could cause an 02 sensor to fail, but that one went bad @ 70k miles in my 96.

Exhaust; I've been shopping for a stock muffler/tailpipe and found that Walker makes an exact fit for both incl. hangers; they have the aluminized version that will last longer than the plain steel types. Advance Auto Parts isslightly less $ than NAPA.

Walker Y pipe; Walker makes a replacement setup for the 5.0 and 5.8's , its a new Y pipe and a single converter with a air tube kit included, alto I did not see it in their on-line catalog

So I'm assuming that when I do my exhaust I should replace them all? I wish I still had the code but I do remember it saying hearted O2 sensor.

And as far as the exhaust upgrade, I need to know where to get a 3" y-pipe and also what most people see as the best hi-flow cats.
