hey folks, i'm gonna put a 460 in muh bronco and have a few questions... #1 can i use the stock shafts ( assuming they are the same length that i need ) or do i need to beef them up? can i run a d-70 rear and the d-44 up front? if not then what axle combo will work with the front 44 diff?

the donor is a 76 f-350. thanks for any and all help! any other tips or info that might be usefull is always appreciated.... thanks again. Foul Al.

You can run the stock t-case, tranny and axles with a 460 in the 78/79 Bronco. The Ford 9" rear will hold up better than the Dana44 front axle, alot dpends on what tire size you run. I had to switch to chromoly's with my D44 and 38's on the 78 Bronco, and it still has the 351M. JSM84

I scoured the local want ads, Craig's List ,state 4x4 forums and salvage yards looking for my 1-ton axles. after several months, I lucked out and found a complete donor truck (88 F-350). You'll often have better luck finding a complete truck than you will a late-70s set of Dana60's. As far as the t-case, the NP205 is more than enough to handle the 460 swap. OK, I see you found a donor 76 F-350. Is it 4WD? The driveshafts most likely will not fit under the Bronco, and may not even fit your t-case. Even if the F-350 has a NP-205 t-case, the yoke size is different for F-series and Broncos in most cases. A Dana70 rear would work, but most that I've seen have oddball gear ratios compared to the Bronco. You may have 3.50:1 gears stock, while the F-350 may be a 4.36 for example. The D70 diff and drums are quite huge compared to the Ford 9". I would consider looking for a GM 14-bolt rear axle. They are more common, but do have huge drums, too. JSM84
