I am currently running my 88 Bronco 2 with a 2.9, 5 speed, on 35x12.50x15's, other than the extreme power loss, will the front and rear end handle the tires? I will mainly use it for light trail work , some mud and dune running. Would dropping down to a 32x11.50 give me any power recovery or will I still need to change the gearing? And can anyone recommend somewhere to get gears from, I'm thinking of 4.10's but unsure if anyone makes them for the lil' bronc's. I appreciate any advice that could be given.

You will not notice much power gain in droping tire sizes a little but not much. the #2 will handel the tires but keep and eye on the front end for parts that ware out.. As far as gearing you should think about motor upgrades befor regearing it

35's are pretty big for stock B2 axles, but if you are easy on the go pedal they can be run. A friend of mine has a pretty stout 94 ranger with a 7 inch lift and 33's He has 4.56 gears and cromoly axles. He snapped the stockers like toothpicks with 33's

I have an 89 2.9 5 speed, all the people that i have talked to have to told me that i should get front and rear axel's out of an explorer, or a yj wrangler. i would convert the rear to the ford 8.8 and run 4.56 gears. one of my manager at work has a wrangler with 35/12.50 15's, and he shadderd his spider gears with a supped up mustang 8.8 rear end with 3.88 gears. As with the front axel i personally dont like the twin i beam set up.

I have a cold air intake, but what other mods do I need? Would duel exhaust help out or should I keep the stock one w/the cat. converter? I am getting a centerforce stage two clutch to put in it due to the clutch slippin pretty bad right now but not sure what else I can do to get things goin in the right direction. But thanks for the advice, I am going to keep the tires the same size and try some trail runs and see what happens. Supposed to snow tonight so Cascades here I come! lol!

I was thinking of an Explorer front end to replace the dana 28 and trying to locate a ranger 8.8 rear end but do to having to modify the drive lines and all the little things that go with it I'm gonna have to wait for the cash flow to come around again, lol! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . But what about the tranny? does it hold up in your friends ranger pretty well? what about his clutch with the bigger tires? Anyways thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

This is a project I picked up to play with and being my daily driver, I can't have it in the garage for long. I have heard of the explorer front end swap and getting the ranger 8.8 rear end swap but both require driveline mods. ( I think converting to cv joints? amongst other things, not sure though) Both will hold up to 302 conversions. I haven't played enough with the TTB yet but have heard ya's and nays about it. I know I can't afford a solid axel conversion yet and as long as I keep it on the ground it should be o.k. for now. But thanks for the input!

His tranny held up great until he decided to dump the clutch in low range and snapped the output shaft. We have since replaced the tranny and he has had no trouble at all.

My 84 B2 would not hold 32x14.5 mickeys with the stock 7.5 rear end . Kept poping the axle bearing partly because it uses the axle as the inner race . I went with an explorer rear end it was total 3 inches wider didnt notice 1.5 on each side but its a 31 spline 8.8 same as a full size bronco but narrowed . After that the drive shaft was the weak link so I modified a full size bronco drive shaft and then I was good to go . It had a 351W and a C4 tranny with all the advanced adaptors parts . Only thing stock that held up was the T case their very good . The front dana 28 made it too only broke it once and ot was from a worn shaft I did get an explorer dana 35 just incase :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

What did you have to do to put the dana 35 in? Did you have to move the shock mounts and re-weld? I have rear anti-lock brakes, what problems would I encounter in the swap?

The 35 is the front and I didnt put it in yet as I said in the end of the post I have it just incase . If you were refering to the 8.8 explorer rear I put in I had to weld the spring perches on because the explorer axles are on top of the springs other than that it was very easy as for your anti locks the explorers had them as well so just plug your wire into the tone ring sensore on the 8.8 axle and you should be set . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Awesome, looks like a good project for this summer. This weekend I will be getting some Explorer leafs to put on the rear to start, After snow & mud wheelin' last Sunday I noticed a few things rubbing. I'm coming into some extra cash next month so an 8.8 may be in the making after a new clutch. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thanks for all the help!

is there a diy on here for the explorer rear end swap. also my bronco is my daily driver so I would prefer to get the axle lined up and installed then have it towed to my mechanic for a new driveline. and anyone running dana 44 fronts? I have a welder and am not afraid to use it. thanks!

The Ranger Station has some write ups on a swap I think. I believe the Explorer rear end swap is almost a bolt up except for the shock mounts need to be redone to fit the bronco. I have heard of dana 44's on B2's but haven't come across any write ups as yet.

jeep cherokee do not have 44's they are dana 30's. the original wagoneer might have 44's tho. I think I am going to use a dana 44 off of a chevy 3/4 ton if anything I believe the ford's were wider.

Aren't the front axles on early broncos dana 44's? Those are what they use for solid axle swaps into bronco 2's I think but not sure ^_^ /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I thought a friend of mine got a d44 out of a cherokee but after I was corrected I asked him and he said it was a dana35 I think, cant remember now. Never really paid much attention to the baby truck parts. LOL, but taking an axle out of a classic, sought after early bronco for a B2? Thats like taking the rear end out of a mustang and putting it into a pinto. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i dont think dropping the tires down will gain you much power. if you stice with the 35's then i would get 4.56 gears if you are planning on 302 swap then you can go with 4.10, i would be careful with the front axle they have a tendence to break u joints when under alota torque.
