yah know as afr as i am consinernd you can probably go ahead and do the bearing ne ways i mean when you get down to the gasket you have prety much got everything outta the way to do the main and crank bearingss and get it honed if the walls look bad ... right? when i had one blow out on my 302, thats what i did and its good for yah to get to know the engine that way 2 because i had to take mine apart so much i could change timing chain gaskets and head gaskets in a little over an hour on a mustang 302 after i did it for the 3,000 time ....lol ( if you ever owned a mustang you know what i am talkin about)... so i wold just change the gasket and then if you got the time and money do the bearings goodluck
