Hi guys (and gals),

Just remembered I'm a member here so figured I'd post something. :-B

I've probably got a broken pinion shaft (there's enough friction to turn the axles until you lock the hubs).

Is it hard to repair the center (pumpkin) section, and should I upgrade it to a trac lock or Detroit locker when I do it?

Or should I get the preassembled center section from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard (never knew there was a place for one stop shopping for Bronco parts :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> ).

well depending on how messed up everything else is you might just be able to replace the pinion..its really not that hard, takes some time and work, but not very hard, but once u have it apart id def get a posi or locker in the front, if you go offroad that is, but make sure whatever you do up front you have someone that knos what they are doing helping you set the gear last and space everything out correctly

more than lickly it isnt the pinion probably just striped out spider gears if your lucky u can replace just them and install new bearings if their is any chips in the ring and pinnion then you will be overhauling everything. make sure u get the same gear ratio. should be on the pass side front axle half. only get a trac lock if u have one in the rear :-B

THe front chunk is not terribly hard to remove, it's just alot of work and very heavy. I would pull it/have it pulled and then diagnose what's wrong, s you may get by with somerepair rather than replacing the whole unit.A Trac-Lok will help, but I went with a full spool when swapping to 4.56 gears. IT's also a good time to replace the axle u-joints while you have it all apart. JSM84
