so how much mods is needed to put a 9" under a 88 bronco with a 8.8. is the tranny the same? is the drive shafts the same?

:(( I have had no luck finding a tech library here, guess I am spoiled.

On an 88 Im sure you have an AOD possibly a C6 so the worst thing your goona have is the antilock brakes are not going to work and the ABS light will be on all the time because of the lack of a speed sensor in the 9 inch :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Timster24, welcome to Bronco Zone!!!

If you look in the "How-To and Tech Articles" forum, you will find a link to "Miesk5 Homepage" which has tons of links to Bronco mods, repairs, etc. Also, a general forum search can often answer your question.

The 83-86 Bronco's shared both the Ford 9" and newer Ford 8.8" axles during that period. After that, the 8.8" was used. A 9" will bolt right up, but the driveshaft length will likely be different. The pinion or snout of the 8.8" is longer, and different transfr cases were used. You may have enough travel inthe slip joint to make a driveshaft work, just check that it won't be fully extended by suspension flex. JSM84

cant remember where but I saw a write up on it and to keep the abs involved welding a "bridge" on top of the housing and tapping/ drilling for the sensor as well as having the housing machined for the sensor wheel to fit into the housing
