well i just bought my first ford, and better yet my first bronco ever! its a 1988 bronco ex police car so it has a 4.9 w/ c6, dana 44 in the front and ford 9 inch in the rear, and better yet, there is almost no rust at all, minus the tailgate!

here is my problem.. i need to replace 4 wheel studs on the front passenger side tire (the tire thats on the dana 44). so i have the tire off, truck up on blocks, caliper off, and i have no idea how to get the hub off. ive been reading and some people claim that it just slides right off, so i have been putting alot of rust remover / penetraiting oil in the gap between the hub and the rotor since its rusted, and i can not get the sucker off! so i tried hammering, and all that has done so far is make me feel better.

anybody have any advice? <_<

Some "rotors seperate from the "hub" ....some don't.

i.e. your hub & rotor are prob. 1 piece.

Therefore, you need to remoce the "guts" down the center of the hub.

(the locking hub, the bearing nuts & bearings, etc.)

Auto parts can tell you if it's one piece...give a call...

Any auto parts store AutoZone, Napa, etc.

"-----so do i need a special tool to get all the guts out

Big socket & some snap-ring plyers most likely.

but what is a 1966 "u-13"

Factory built (1966, '67)Bronco Roadster.....no top, no doors

Sometimes those studs will come out W/O removing the hub. (If there's room)

yeah thats the problem, there just isnt any room. i got them out ok, but just getting them in isnt working because there isnt any room to hammer.

u will need to take the hub apart to get the rotor off this pic should help u on how to take it apart.

4x4.gif

Raise the vehicle and install safety stands.

Lock Ring And Adjusting Nut Removal

Remove the locking hubs.

Remove the wheel lug nuts and the wheel and tire from the hub and rotor assembly.

For vehicles equipped with Dana model 44 front drive axle and manual hub lock, remove the adjusting nut with spanner locknut wrench. Apply inward pressure on the locknut wrench to disengage the adjusting nut locking splines and turn the nut counter-clockwise to loosen and remove the nut from the spindle. For vehicles equipped Dana model 44 with automatic hub locks, Dana model 50 and model 60 front drive axles, remove the outer locknut, lockwasher and inner locknut with spanner locknut wrench.

Remove the brake caliper and secure it to the frame to prevent damage to the brake hose. To prevent damage to the hose or the caliper, do not let the caliper hang only by the brake hose.

Hub, Disc And Outer Bearing Removal

Remove the hub and disc assembly. The outer wheel bearing cone and roller assembly will slide out as the hub is removed.
