weights are extreamley important, i broke one off my shaft while working on it so i drilled out the weight where the spot welds were and plug welded the weight back on.

Try taking out all the u joints at once then you'll have easily enough play to get it out though I just wiggled the **** out of it when I did it. looks like that U joint took a beating during the removal attempts (might be grease though). How are your bearing caps? I bought a couple U joints only to drop them and not find the needles so if you want the cross piece I can mail it to ya, right now its a paper weight i can do without.

yeah take it to a drive shaft shop it takes a special tool to do the later model drive shafts there is actually a ball in the center that has a spring in it and it takes a special tool to remove it and install it , DO NOT try take them all out at once!!! just get you in more trouble believe me you will be in a worse boat that your in now and it wil cost more money , keep all the parts together and look for a drive shaft specialist in the phone book.. cause they have the tool

Yes, you sohuld re-attach the weight to the driveshaft, or else you may have some vibrations. Looks like from the first pic, that you removed the clip and cap,. Is the one in the second pic stuck? When you pull out the clip, the cap can be driven out from the other side by hammering on the cap with ha socket. I might have some pics of u-joint removal in my SFO album, JSM84

the drive shaft he has has the end piece on it and requires a tool to hold it while you try to get it out the ones you have has the u joint that bolts directly to the transfer case and rear end , his has the newer yoke , i think and its a bitch to get them off ... just a little warning but you can try it

You do have to take the other U joint looose as well this will allow the ball to seperate and you can wiggle the 2 joints out of the CV . That ball piece is in the end yoke and the end of the drive shaft itself . Must remove both joints or have them loose to seperate . Not a bad job juts take your time youll save a bunch of money and have the experience and that weight is very important , :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

 yeah go get another drive shaft from a "PICK AND PART PLACE " you mean a junk yard? cause youll be right back in the same boat if you get a used one... its not a matter of if your u joints are going to go bad, its when ... if you get a used drive shaft you just getting one with probably more miles and has been setting forever with rusty and worn u joints... last a checked i think a new one is 250.00 dollars on broncograveyard... compared to 125.00 is what it cost me to get mine fixed and i would cost 245.00 to get it lengthend which is what i need to do but compare the prices

goodluck

Hey about that weight thingee, just wondering if anyone knows the approximate weight of it. The PO of my bronc knocked it off and i have mad vibrations at highway speed. Hopefully it is something simple as finding a new weight or a new drive shaft

Unfortunately, if its gone there is no way to know how heavy it was. Like wheels, driveshafts are each balanced individually. A shop will have to put it on a machine and test it to see what it needs.

I don't know how much such a service costs. I don't even know what the machine looks like since I have never had to have it done. I don't imagine it would be too expensive. Surely cheaper than a new driveshaft. I would get it fixed though, a wobling driveshaft can't be good for the seals and bearings on the T-case and differential.

I got mine and pick n pull and the truck had the year and when they picked it up writen on it and it was newer then mine and only at pic n pull for 3 mo and i have had it on my truck for a mo and no probs yet but even if it did break adn i go and buy another one for $45 how much is that? still waaay cheaper then buying one for $150-$250. I mean if you got that kinda money and time sure. Or maybe you just dont want to fix it yourself and have some clutz work on it. Good luck with the weight! Tell us how it all goes and $$!

well unlike some i know how to actually change the u-joints on most later models myself without buying a whole new or used drive shaft ..... when it breaks let me know i never trust someone elses problems it must have been in a junk yard for a reason .... think about it???? hummm maybe the truck was wrecked or damaged just because it doesnt look damaged doesnt mean its not ...you Obviously dont know what a bad ujoint is in the first place ... rust , ****, or any noise is the cause of changing them, so if you want to say you way is better fine its only a quick fix you are driving on barrowed time, maybe it is ok for a couple of months but i would be real weary about taking it hard off road with those weak u-joints ( if you know what hard off roading is?) but your call ... keep buying crap and thats what youll end up driving ... if you fix it right the first time you wont have to fix it again... but not trying to **** anyone off just 2 diffrent opinions to the arguement ... goddluck :-"

Not trying to **** anyone off lol thats funny. You must not have a wife if that is how you dont **** people off. And my option as i said (maybe you cant read) is if you DONT have that much money..oh and hunny my yoke was broken like the drive shaft fell out of it cause there was a piece missing kinda hard to miss or not know what i am talking about. Hard off roading lol your a sexist pig and i would love to offroad with you someday. LOL being that I errr dont? know how to take u joints off they are only $10 at auto zone. And after i bought them you know what i did? i put them on my truck i know right it was amazing. took me a whole i dunno 20 min only cause i had to go *** half way threw. But now we are off topic cause you are rude. anyways Im done fighting with a close minded boy.

lol name callin and all huh??? look i really dont care i just didnt want to steer the man wrong , like i said a quick fix to a problem that will probably arise agin if he doesnt nip it in the bud! sexist nope dont care who you are if you dont know what your doing you dont know what your doin! yeah the cheap u joints are at autozone for 10 bucks and if you do hard wheelin like you said you would know they are the weakest link and dont last long!!!!! but you have the knowledge !!! i would get some OX u joints ALOT STRONGER and they have the grease joint so you can grease them without taking them out what i have, but you already knew that huh? so please if you going to throw stones dont live in a glass house and your new to the fourm and i am warning you because i have already been threw it myself you start callin people names and stero typing them they will terminate you ... so accept the fact that there is other better ways of doing something that you thought was so right!!! or hey if you want a pile of broken drive shafts in your back yard go ahead or maybe you can try selling them back to the pick and part place the might give you half of what you paid...... and if you call me rude for disagreeing with you i am :-"
