Transmission stuck in park

I have a 1995 Eddie Bauer Bronco with the 351 engine. I can start the engine fine, but cannot get the truck out of park. I have placed my foot on the brake and restarted the truck numerous times. I have got underneath the vehicle and tried to manually push the shifting rod to shift the gear. Is there some kind of fuse or switch that may be bad? It feels as if there is a brick wall keeping me from getting my truck into gear. Help

I know NOTHING about auto transmissions, so I do not know what happens internally when one puts his truck in Park. I do know that a few times in the past, if I parked on a steep hill, and put the car in Park, and let it roll forward that I may have a hard time getting it out of Park. In fact, once my son was on such a steep hill, that he needed someone to tow him backwards 8 inches or so to allow the trans to release.

I don't know if this relates to you or not.

I am sure someone else will be more helpful.

Thanks. It is sitting on a somewhat level driveway. I have rocked it back and forth to see if that was the problem. Is there a sensor or switch that may have gone bad with the brake pedal. I know that you have to have your foot on the brake to place it into gear. I have tried to push the brake pedal through the floor.

i had something similar happen to me. At first the dealer thought it was the bushings inside the steering column but it turned out to be both the bushings and the inner cast allow shaft that were broken.

How much did that end up costing you and is it something that you would have been able to do yourself.

it was not something i wanted to do myself so i paid the dealer about $450 to get it done

I found out that it was a 15a fuse that controls the brake lights and automatic trans locking pin. Once I replaced this blown fuse, it worked like a champ. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for posting the resolution to the problem... hooda thunk it'd be a fuse? Certainly not me, but now that I know the answer... Well, this is one that I am not likely to forget.

glad it was an easy and cheap fix. never would have thought it was a fuse.
