transfer case interchangeable

its says that 80-86 T-cases are the same and 87-91 are the same, does anyone know the reason why i can't put a 86 transfer case in my 87 bronco?

The transfer cases share the same bolt pattern for the transmission adapter, but do have specific shift linkage for a t-case/tranny combo. You can swap t-cases among the various models as long as you use the right linkage, since the linkage is different length for each combo. JSM84

so it should bolt up as i suspected, i might have to custom make a shifter then or modify one. my t-case crapped out on me when i needed it some i'm in a rush to get one back in, on a stupid low budget.

The 87 to 91 ones also have one more spline on the rear output so you cant use the yoke from the older on on it . /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i have the yokes for that 86 T-Case, i just dont have the shifter which is the only part that needs to be modified for it work in my 87 bronco.

zilla, you have the AOD tranny, right? Since it was only used for a few years, it's very hard to find the shift linkage for the B-W 13-56/ manual - AOD combo.
