Borg Warner transfer case 86 bronco

Hi bronco peeps,
Can anybody tell me if I can pull the bolt out of my transfer case where the shift lever goes in and pull that shift lever out and re-clock it without anything falling apart?
The people that I had rebuild this locked that lever wrong and I need to re-clock it. Thank you for any assistance on this Mark.

Yes it should be fine to do it that way.

trying to remember if you will get any oil or not, but even if you do, just be quick about it. LOL
