What is better overall, a Borg Worner 1356 or a New Process 205?

Just a personal preference, I suppose. Just want to see which has a better following. I've heard great things about both, and right now I myself have a BW 1356 mounted.

The 205 is the best factory unit ever built.The1356 doesnt even come close to even comparing to it.The gear drive of the 205 vs the chain drive of the 1356 is as far as cold from hot.If you install a 205,just figure on never having to replace it,they are pretty much indestructable in comparison even in my opinion to an atlas.I put one in my bronco replacing the 1356 and have a feeling of relief and reliability.

You can get them out of 78-79 Broncos and F-Series 4x4's.

NP 205's go for about $150-$200 HERE in TX, while the B_W 13-56's go for about $350-$400. Low gear ratio about 1.7:1 in the 205, vs 2.7:1 in the 13-56. Cast iron, gear driven 205 vs magnesium case chain drive on the 13-56. Weight of the 205 is about 180#, the 13-56 is about 75#. More info at www.truckpulls.com, JSM84

$200.00 is about the going price here in Missouri for the 205,as for the 1356,I dont know about pricing.Ive never bought one ,nor would I ever.In fact,I have a perfectly good one that anyone could take for free,and I have a 205 that I would sell.Installation is a breeze as long as you have the right spline match,and will accually free up some space under your ride.As far as the weight issue with the 205,just consider it a small price to pay for reliability and performance....not to mention the PTO on the 205 for a shaft driven winch,or even a shaft driven hydro pump.The205's are KILLER!

Is it a manual 205?

And how do you tell what kind of splines you have?

Still new to this "self-mechanic" thing, all I know about engines really are lawnmower and those small honda and brigg's engines.

The only way I know of is to count them. If you get it out of a Bronco or F-series your pretty much gauranteed the right one.

The NP205 and 208 t-cases have 32-spline yokes, the B-W 13-56 has 31-spline yokes. The trans input shaft and bolt patterns are the same.

So I'd have to take off the connection between the tranny and the t-case and get a 32 spline if I were to do a swapout? I've seen sites and articales in rig magazines for places to get t-case adapters and stuff.

The input shaft to the t-case from the tranny is 31 spline for all Ford models to my knowledge. You can check Novak Enterprises for more info, as they offer many kits for t-case/tranny swaps. I was refering to the driveshaft yokes, which will not interchange amongst all t-case models. JSM84

what junkyard? Ill be looking for one in the near future? Im only just across the river in PA. currentley my 91 has an np208 inplace of the wasted 1356E but Id really like to step it up to the 205. not worried about it immediatley, im about to change out the quaterpanels and probably the doors and fenders since i have them laying around too with no rust on them.
