The Automatic locking hubs are stuck on my 90. They will not disengage. Is there a way to fix this problem? I can't deal with the noise anymore and I'm afraid that I've destroyed the diff.

How can I unlock the hubs?

You can unbolt them , clean them really good inside and put them back on if you dont see anything majorly wrong with them . Some people think they need to be packed with grease but that isnt the case when the grease gets cold it will make them hang up and really the lockout just moves the spline coupler in to enguage the hub and the axle after that there is no movement in the hub itself so lubrication should be at a minimum . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

If the hubs are stuck engaged, put the truck in neutral and try to disengage them. Mine locked up like that once but I put it in neutral and they unlocked.

Are you talking about putting the transfer case in neutral or the transmission? Or, I am I missing something here?

Xfer case = neutral; also leave tranny in P or N; try it, if no go, back-up over 10 feet and try again

our 96's auto hubs blew out around 28k miles despite maintenance; blew out again a yr later so swapped to Warn man. hubs.

Ford sells a rebuild kit for the autos but they go for about $70.00 per side.

Well, trying to drive the hubs unlocked didn't work. I guess I'm going to have to do it manually. Can I do that without taking the wheels off? Or do I have to take everything off? Is there a way that I can do it by taking the caps off?

Okay, hubs unlocked.

All I had to do was jack up the front end, remove the hub covers, turn each wheel backwards about 1/2 a rotation and but the hub covers back on. Drove it, not more noise, buzzing, or clanking.

Thanks for all your help!
