My RPM meter is off by maybe 2000 or 1500 (it says the truck idles at 2500) my dad said that he has had it replaced once when it was under warrenty by ford. just wondering if there is anything i could do to fix the problem?

do you happen to have a multimeter with a tach function ? you could put a line on your + of your coil and test straight from there to make sure there isnt any weird noise.

your tach in dash should get power and ground from the rest of the gauge cluster so if there is no other problems it can only be your signal wire to the coil. If the signal is fine but it consistantly reads high and not a random thing, id say you have a burnt resistor inside the tach. it can probably be fixed if you have the knowhow. if the resistor is burnt i wouldnt know how to tell was is the right value.
