I was wondering if there should be any type of resistor dropping the voltage from 12V to a points distributor coil. Right now mine has a 1.2 Ohm resistor. Is this the right size? Should there even be one? I was driving around town yesterday in my newly purchased '67 and it broke down on the side of the road. The coil was too hot to even touch. Should it be getting this hot?

There is a built in resister wire coming from the ignition switch. Take a jumper wire and ground the negative side of the coil. Turn on the ignition switch and read the voltage at the positive terminal of the coil. It should be 4.5 - 6.5 volts if the resister wire is good. You shouldnt need an external resister. New resiter wires are vailable form JBG. The coil should not be hot to the touch unless its just heat off the engine
