I have a 1973 Bronco that I recently purchased. It has power steering, but not power breaks. Living in a city makes it a little difficult with people jaywalking and cars cutting you off. Someone told me that I can convert it pretty easily. Is this true? And, do they sell kits to do this?

Thanks.

Sure...

$ 700 & up...!

I have DRUM brakes front & rear.... they stop on a dime & give 9c change..! /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

(That's because they were done correctly.)

You can re-do yours for $50-$150 approx.

OR

$700- $1000 for disc b-(

I will attest that the stopping power of disc is worth it over drum. I did it and there is no way I would ever go back to drum. The only thing that I intend on doing in the future is doing a hydroboost set up later. It is night and day between the two.

Try Jeff's Bronco graveyard he is by far the cheapest EB parts dealer. if you want a used and stock set up i would suggest broncoconnection.net in norfolk, NE. Just try to stay away from tom's bronco parts unless you have too much money! $-)

Hmmmm...,

I've used Wildhorses, & Toms out here on the west coast, & JBG, (among others)....I find them all helpful & competitive.

Some are better in areas than others....but that's pretty much the "way of world" in business, isn't it..? ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I have found very close prices in all of them.I have bought from just about all of them.I like Wild Horses, because ,almost allways they use all new parts.Watch out for that.unless it does'nt matter to you.I don't want any used parts,I want new,and alot of times ,some of these places neglect to tell you this.I strongly disagree with keeping drum brakes.I have run them ,and know how to correctly adjust them. They consistantly don't want to stop as even as discs.Alot of times they want to pull to one side.To me they really ****,that was the first upgrade I did on the four Broncos I have owned.

I've had 6 EB's ....all drum & they all stopped perfectly. (none were power)

Let me say this, ....FORD didn't make brakes that DON'T stop. I've had my white '66 15 yrs. IT stops hands free.!

"Alot of times they want to pull to one side"

This, right here, tells you SOMETHING is/was WRONG..!

Early Land Cruisers have "TWO wheel cylinders per wheel"...they're really fun to get right but again, that's the "key"....they gotta be done correctly..!

I did 11 of them & again they would stop on a dime, hands free..!

I have no prob. with disc's ----just see no need to spend $K's on a trail rig that I rarely use the brakes on anyway....except on the street..

Bobs got a point. Unless you are using this rig on a regular basis (everyday ride like I do) then I wouldn't spend upwards to a grand on the brakes if you do them right and maintain them. If this is your everyday vehicle, then I would spend the money on discs.

"THANK YOU" Mr. Bolt 19....!

I guess folks don't really notice...I answer questions "generally" not "specifically" (usually), so that other readers can weigh the options.

There's rarely an answer that fits everyone.... <_<

I know, we all think our way is the best..'til we find out different. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Happens to me more than I would like...

I also agree with Bully and S bolt...

We run a 73 with non power drum brakes.

If set up properly using the brake shoe material they were designed for, they will stop your truck quickly and efficiently.

If they are not adjusted properly, or if you use a new "high tech" type of brake shoe material, they will not work as well.
