Here in Ohio we got several thousand inches of snow today and all the vehicles in the driveway where stuck, including my dad's '98 F-250. My Bronco was the only vehicle that could actually get out. After I drove her out of the driveway, I decided to go take it out on the road for a little bit (during a level 3 snow emergency and a blizzard warning). The road was covered with massive amounts of snow and I found myself driving in snow that was up to the bottom of the door even on the road. I thought I was going to get stuck, but she pulled through just fine. Then I pulled out my dad's truck and also the loader tractor that we got stuck while we were trying to clear the driveway. Them Broncos are somethin' else! My dad says that the Bronco probably wieghs more than his truck because of the cap, which sounds plausible. But just out of curiosity, how much do Broncos usually wiegh?

Oh and does anyone know where I could get a good quality tailgate? Either just the shell or used with all the guts in it, doesn't matter.

Here' s a rough list of weights..

1978 - 4,509lbs.

1979 - 4,569lbs.

1980 - 4,083lbs.

1981 - 4,083lbs.

1982 - 4,079lbs.

1983 - 4,254lbs.

1984 - 4,311lbs.

1985 - 4,373lbs.

1986 - 4,267lbs.

1987 - 4,420lbs.

1988 - 4,532lbs.

1989 - 4,453lbs.

1990 - 4,453lbs.

1991 - 4,453lbs.

1992+ 4,500ish.

Your dad's truck should have the stock weight, just check the drivers door jamb GVWR = Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

& for parts I assume you checked jeffsbroncograveyard.com

If you haven't, thats the place I'd recommend first.

Craislist.org might have some parts broncos with working tailgates.

Or if there are any auto-yards near you, that's another option..

Good luck..!

Funny how people often confuse curb weight and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

Curb weight is what they actually weigh with all fluid containers full.

GVWR is the total weight of the vehicle plus what they are rated to carry.

The curb weights of Bronocs are listed above.

Their GVWR is about 6,000 lbs, give or take a few.

SO when you look at the door jamb for your dad's truck for comparison, you want to check the Curb weight, not what it is rated at. BTW I read that the bronco cap weighs no more than 150 lbs.

I just looked up 1998 F250

Weights: gross vehicle weight rating (kg) 3,266, curb weight (kg) 2,159,

multiply those numbers by 2.2 to convert to lbs = 4750 lbs for the curb weight.

So actually if both vehicles are unmodified, the 250 weighs just a little more than the Bronco. Maybe you have more aggressive tires on the Bronco?

I think you're right. I have bgf all terrains and he has some generic off brand. Also his truck has an open rear end instead of posi like my Bronco has which definately makes a difference.

I'll try broncograveyard for the tailgate. 100% of the tailgates in junkyards around here are rusted just as bad as mine. I tried craigslist, but didn't find anything.
