Need to replace my tailgate window motor and regulator.
Inside the left brake light housing are two 30/40amp relays wired into tailgate window circuit. The wiring diagram doesn't show them. Anyone know why they are there? Can I cut them out and wire the circuit without them?

Yeah sure doesn't seem like they should be there.

Can you unplug them and see what stops working before you cut them out?

Maybe that is someone's version of trailer wiring?

My 82 doesn't have those relays, just runs full amps through the dash switch (which cooks the switch and hot wire after time).
Looks like Ford got smarter, and kept the amperage low through the dash switch but still gives full amps through the key switch. Both paths (dash switch though relays and key switch) give full amps to the tailgate window lift motor.

what's the need to replace the regulator? non functioning? the wire harness between body and tailgate is prone to fatigue and the wires end up breaking.
