Hello to all! I have a 96 Eddie Bauer with 351, 4x4 and E40d tranny, It has 113,000 miles on it and runs great. recently i replaced the TPS, VSS and MLPS. also did a full fluid and filter change on tranny. It is not throwing any codes but the ABS light is on at all times, I am having this strange vibration at high speeds but only when i let off the gas, it also is shifting a little hard between 1st and 2nd. after driving for a bit the overdrive light will sometimes start to flash, I have checked so many forums and gone over all the wiring harnesses multiple times, seriously frustrated at this point, I also greased all U-joints and the slip joint for the drive shaft, and serviced the differential. Im running out of ideas. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

yo Eddie,

WELCOME!

w/out Codes, But with the OD light flashing at times and the amber ABS Light on,

we have a few possible to investigate, starting with:

96 Bronco-F-Series Workshop Manual (PARTIAL) by dieseldave

http://www.diesel-dave.com/vehic/manual/stj/stjleft.htm

E4OD Diagnosis by Symptom & Index;

Shift Concerns: Harsh 1-2 Shift Only (Automatic) Possible Component Reference/Action 232 — ELECTRICAL ROUTINE Powertrain Control System
  • Electrical inputs/outputs, vehicle wiring harnesses, powertrain control module
  • Run On-Board Diagnostics. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual for diagnosis. Service as required. This is the scan for Codes
332 — HYDRAULIC/MECHANICAL ROUTINE Main Controls (This is valve body)
  • Bolts not tightened to specification
  • Retighten bolts to specification.
  • Gaskets damaged, misaligned
  • Inspect for damage and replace.
  • Intermediate clutch accumulator regulator valve or plunger springs — stuck, damaged, missing or misassembled
  • Inspect for damage. Service as required.
  • Wrong parts used in rebuild
  • Verify that proper parts were used.
Intermediate Clutch Assembly
  • Assembly
  • Air check clutch assembly as outlined in this section.
  • Seals or piston damaged
  • Inspect for damage. Service as required.
  • Friction elements missing or misassembled, damaged or improper quantity of plates installed
  • Inspect for damage. Service as required.
  • Ball check missing
  • Inspect for damage. Service as required.

Transmission Control Switch (TCS) and Lamp Operation (OD ON/OFF Switch and LED)The transmission control switch is a momentary contact switch. When the switch is pressed, a signal is sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650). The powertrain control module then energizes the transmission control indicator lamp and the coast clutch solenoid, applying the coast clutch to provide engine braking and cancels fourth gear operation. The TCIL indicates overdrive cancel mode activated (lamp on), electronic pressure control circuit shorted or monitored sensor failure (lamp flashing).

Next is the 4WABS Lamp

4WABS Self Test & Test Connector Diagram, Component Locations, DTCs, 93-96; "...The 4WABS TEST Connector is red; located at the left-hand side (driver's side) of the engine compartment and marked ANTI-LOCK TEST

Light Flash Technique

1. Note: If 12V test light is not available, the amber ABS warning light also flashes during this test. Locate test connector in the engine compartment and install 12V test light between Pins C and E.

2. With the ignition off, jumper Pin E to B.

3. Turn key to RUN position.

4. Remove jumper between Pins E and B after 5 seconds.

5. Count light flashes of test light or amber ABS warning light..." read more;

Miesk5, thanks for the info, I will be running tests and let everyone know the findings since I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue.

Thanks again!

ok,so its taken some time since i work too damn much but after following tests i found a really dirty MAF sensor that was causing the late shift, the vibration is definetly a torque converter that is on its way out. so it looks like i might as well rebuild the tranny since it has to be dropped anyway. HUGE thanks to Miesk5 for all the info, its good to know all the tested components are operating as intended. Long Live the Bronco!!!!
