I have a 1988 Bronco II with the 2.9L engine and A4LD transmission. I seem to be experiencing multiple problems which started right after the flexplate broke. I pulled the transmission, replaced the flexplate, replaced the spacer and the torque convertor and put the transmision back in. The truck would not idle or run over 15 mph and the exhaust was glowing from the exhaust manifold to the catalytic convertor. I removed the catalytic convertor and determined it was stopped up. I found the 02 sensor wires were melted and removed the sensor. The truck will start but initially won't run higher than 1500 rpms. The engine will gradually rise to 2500 rpms but no higher. If I put truck in gear, it will only run 15 mph and does not have enough power to pull itself up hill. I need some help diagnosing this problem. Oil and coolant are OK so I know its not a blown head gasket. When running the truck smells like it is running rich. I would like to get this vehicle back on the road ASAP. Aby help would be greatly appreciated.
