I have the electric shift on the fly BW 1356 on my 1996 Bronco XLT marked: 13-56-065-910 and want to replace the electric transfer case motor.

When going through Rock Auto, it provides several versions but mainly theses two offerings are throwing me off: I.D. #(s) w/Sensor I.D. # D and I.D. #(s) w/Sensor I.D. # 1D

Not sure what version to get?

The reason I am doing this is, the self test on the 4x4 module passes (4 blinks), and the 4HI works with no issues. However, when pressing 4LO the light doesn't even come on in neutral with the break pressed after 4HI is engaged and lit up. I even replaced the 4x4 dash switch and refreshed all the related grounds and connections. I do have an aftermarket transmission shift module (US Shift) and my reverse lights stopped working (All other lights work). I think it even has a new neutral safety switch (Refreshed this connection as well) ? I am stumped...

Yo Money,
Before you spend $;
In 1996 Bronco/F Series Workshop Manual see

Symptom Chart — Transfer Case, 4X4 System

  • Electronic 4WD Indicator Lamp Inoperative
  • Electronic 4WD lamp not functioning properly.
  • Electronic 4WD lamp open or shorted.
  • Brake Switch Input
  • Stoplamp operation.
  • Bad or intermittent brake switch input.
See Electrical Schematics @ http://www.diesel-dave.com/vehic/manual/stj/stj77008.htm

Thank You! - Not far into troubleshooting, this was the first red flag:

Check the voltage between the module harness connector C2 Pin 5 Circuit 783 (GY) and chassis ground while the brake pedal is depressed:
Is voltage steady and greater than 9V? - Yes - REPLACE control module.

This??

The second red flag was and where I stopped troubleshooting until repaired:

With the transmission in NEUTRAL, check the voltage between Pin 5 and chassis ground.
Is voltage steady or intermittent and greater than 1V? - Yes - REPAIR short to voltage in Circuit 463 (R/W) or REPLACE Park/Neutral Position Switch.

This reading was all over the place,
especially when I rocked the vehicle - short?

Or This??

This will be interesting.

Went through the same process on a 94. We ended up having to replace the motor and the computer. Not sure it one took the other out or what. New controller last 6 months and then had to replace again.
