I have a 90 5.8 that currently has the stock dual cats on it. I want to take those off and put just 1 new cat in their place and want to know what yall think are good options. I've looked around online and seen a # of "direct fit" options that are made specifically for the bronco and has the pipes on it going up twoards the engine and ive seen a # of universal cats that are cat only. Is it worth spending the extra $100+ dollars to get the direct fit our should I just go with the universal cat only? And does anyone know what the pipe size in and out is? Thanks

option one is the kit that's what the direct fit basically is its the Y pipe and a cat or you can get the Y pipe for about 80 and a universal cat for that matter the O.E. cat (second one in line) for about 50 in this area anyway well last time I looked the direct fit is about 250 so its up to you doing the kit is cheaper and if you ever need to get into it again its 2 pieces so it can come apart instead of one that is a real pain

or option 2 is get the crossover and after measuring the cat get the highest flow you can for the size you can fit bear in mind a little shorter is ok as you can add pipe but not remove pipe this is a good mpg and power upgrade

option 3 just replace the cat and leave the pipe alone use stock or high flow your choice

option 4 eliminate it not the thing to do if you live in an area that does state inspections but what I plan on once the truck hits the golden 25 year mark ( in NY becomes emissions exempt at 25 years)

Well i called up summit and asked them about that catco one if the 5.0 would be the same as the 5.8 and the guy didnt seeeeeem to know for sure but said it didnt seem any different. I went ahead and ordered it anyway hopefully itll work out.

The only reason I'm really getting it is because I had a flowmaster muffler/dual pipes put on this summer but due to the exhaust having to travel through those awful dual cats my model bronco has before it got to the muffler it hardly made any difference in sound. By switching to this new single cat though I should hopefully be able to hear that 5.8 roar and still pass virginia inspection

well got bad news for you they are not the same the part for the 5.0 on the Y pipe that crosses over is much shorter than its big brother and the angle from the manifolds is different

see the links below

summit 5.8

that one is the 5.8 magnaflow

summit 5.0

that is for the 5.0 view the image it shows the measurements also the price is lower than the catco (tho not by much)

Damnit..,

Do you think the shop will be able to make some minor adjustments to it or should I cancel the order??

I would change the order as the price is about the same and how much will it cost for a 3inch sleeve to be inserted and lined up better off and stronger using the corrrect part
