I just added a 4inch lift to my 95 Bronco. This was the first time i have ever worked on a vehical besides putting gas in it and changing the oil. So i was pretty clueless on how to do everything, but after looking at the lift brackets and looking under the bronco i figured out how the whole thing went into play. It ended up being a pretty easy job that took me about 6 hours by myself in my drive way, with hand tools, 4 bottle jacks, and 2 jack stand.

Installing a lift on a Split Axel isnt all that hard. The drop brackets on the axel are fairly easy to install, all you do is disconnect the original brackets and put the new ones in, on the drivers side you will probably have to drill one (1) new hole, thats really all the drilling you need to do. With the Radius arm brackets all you do is disconnect the bracket install the drop bracket and reattach that to the frame. Sway bar is simple disconnect put in brackets and reattach. I recommend getting an extended Pitman arm if you didnt get one with the lift kit if you are going 4in or more, Install new springs and shocks and your off to get an alignment.

When i did it i disconnected one whole side, ie: everything that has to do with the drivers side i added all the brackets and what not. once that was installed i went to the other side and did that one. I recommend having a few jacks around to hold things from hanging from brake lines and floating, a second hand is always a plus with this type of work, especially if they have an understanding on how to do a lift.

PS... MAKE SURE YOU TIGHTEN ALL BOLTS EXTRA EXTRA TIGHT lock washers and double nut it if you can, after a bumpy road trip, 500 miles, and or 4 wheelin, double check the tightness of all bolts.

Hope this has help some what.. Good luck and happy wheelin.

I bought an 89 bronco with a 4'' Black Diamond lift, that i just stripped off the truck and put on mine. I am not truelly happy with the lift but i didnt think very much before i bought it and now i screwed myself for a while.. but hey it happens and i learned alot about suspesions since then. My next suspension upgrade wont be for a while when i can afford a solid in the front and an upgrade in the rear.

love the look of your ride. it looks like you could add a larger tire with ease. what size do you think you could add with out too many issues?

thanks for your input.

i was thinking that and was curious about that myself. the board sticky says 35's but you need to worry about the gearing. i suppose depending on how you're doing the project, you could do the tires then redo the gears when you get around to that area and just drive with them till then. suppose it also would depend on the distance you travel daily too.

i only drive about 8 miles per day during the week. and most weekends we use the old lady's car to conserve on gas unless we go to the hardware store and need to haul stuff or we go to the beach. so for me that might be an option to do it that way. only problem is cost of larger tires and if you need to make a long drive somewhere before you switch the gearing out.

anyhow anybody have good info on how big you can go with a 4 inch suspension lift without making any major mods right away?

i only drive the bronco for pleasure. i have a gas saver to drive during the week. plus, i will need to put new tires on real soon. like, within the next 5000 miles. so i want to do the lift pretty soon so i will be ready for new tires

what do you mean "redo the gears" and what does that do? are you talking about the speedometer?

Redoing the gears refers to the replacement of your ring and pinion gears in the front and rear differential. Your truck stock has 3.54 in front and 3.55 in rear. Anything taller than a 33 inch tire you should change gear ratio. Some say 33's need lower gears but I'd say thats preference, I have had 3 trucks with 33's and stock gears with no problems, small power difference but not unmanagable.

is this a difficult operation? or maybe something a jr. mechanic could do?

The gear change should be done by a professional, sadly to say but its the best.

i guess it'll have to be 33's for me now. i'm trying to say in a specific order that makes sense to me- even if it's cockeyed to everyone else. if i change it up to much it'll throw me into panic :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />. i think the undercarriage is the last thing on my list unless of course something goes down before then. no biggie when i redo the gearing i can always sell the 33's.

yardape will 35's fit on it ok or do you need to trim the bumpers? i just got the the broncodriver.com mag and i guy put 35 mickey thompson claws on a later model bronco and he did some fender trimming. ot was that just specific to the tires he was using?

and lastly your avatar is your bronco w/ the 3" and 33's correct? can you post some pics of it?

you will eiither have to trim the bumper you you can space it out. if you put a few washers in between the bumper mount you should be able to survive with out trimmimg the bumper a whole lot. Try the washers before you start trimming.
