Front driveshaft, can’t find the right length

Hallo!

Just bought my fist bronco from 1990 (V8 5.8L) bought it for about $1000
(E4OD? - it does have the OD off bottom).
It does have a few’ problems though, but thats why I bought it! - as a project for learning.

There is some clunking sound from rear prop shaft u-joints, so I ordered new ones. It took
Me some time to locate the sound, but after some YouTubing it was obvious that I was coming somewhere from the drivetrain.

Front prop shaft had a quite big dent in it, so I took it off and wanted to order a new one. But.. I can’t go see the right length. The front shaft is 1062mm (41.8inch) and the closest one I can find is 1003mm (39.5inch) and 40.5inch.
The car were lifted from before I had it. Could the wrecked prop shaft be special made to meet these specs?

Maybe it’s stupid questions, but honestly, I do not know better and I just want to learn.

Yes you can have a new one made. The tubing is not cheap though. It is actually cheaper to find one too long and shorten it if at all possible.

Anybody know what tubing is now? $5 an inch or something?

I recently had a 53" driveshaft made, reusing my yokes and with new u-joints, balanced it was $500. But that was probably thicker tube being for a 1 ton truck.

Yup, find a driveshaft specialist and talk to them. Look on the Internet or find one local. Ask at a 4WD store where they go. They will guide you through how to measure the length which is dependent upon lift and tell you of any upgrades which are available.

Plenty local, just gotta ask around, something U will need to do if serious abt a project. We build a community around us (give AND take).
Find out Y this one went wrong (it will teach a lesson) and how simply they are made (& balanced). We do it in an auto garage (The balancing is important as U go) but w/6 - 50 yrs experience we can fab for most our needs. See a uTube on proper measurments of shafts (U ctr to U ctr).
