Personally I don't know one filter from another. I wouldn't think that it would make much of a difference if you changed your oil every 3000 miles. Yeah a cheaper filter may go into blowby mode sooner than a better one, but if the oil is clean and you change the filter with each oli change, *I* would think that you would be fine.

Way too often for my tastes people will hook into one brand or another for anything and tout it as the best, yet have no real practical experience to make comparisions against other brands. The people that I would give a real good ear to on such matters are people who have taken engines apart and know the history of the engines regarding what brand was used in it. Or if they did reading on the subject and that there were reliable nonbiased studies done.

I know that neither SeaBronc, nor BroncoBIll78 hold Fram in very high regard, I would be interested in hearing why they feel that way.

I run either motocraft or wix. Wix is the same thing you get when you get carquest as well. Just what I've used since high school auto. Guess it rubbed off on my from the instructor. We used wix on the racecar and motocraft in his daughters stang. I think it's more personal preferance though.

I prefer the pure one's...I remember reading somewhere that the Fram's didn't have as good of micro-filtration as the Pure one's, and miesk5's link seemed to back that up...I also had a problem with the gasket on the Fram oil filter always sticking to the block. Not fun if you ever forget to check.

Yea ive always had a problem gettin those Fram filters off. Its due for a change soon so i think im gonna try out a Motorcraft one. We dont have a good parts house in town, can you get those Wix filters at Checker? Thats where i buy most of my stuff from when i can, i really like the service i get from them and there prices are pretty good.

I heard several people on this forum really don't like fram oild filters. But I've used these filters with every oil change every since I was 16 and I have never had any problem with them. The fact is that they do what they are designed to do and that is to filter oil and that's all I want out of my oil filter. As long as you change your oil every 3,000-5,000 miles and change the filter along with it, I just don't see the big deal in buying whatever brand of oil filter you want.

I've also used them for years and only had a problem with one filter. About 8 years ago, the rubber gasket on it came off and stuck to the engine and I didn't notice. Put on new one and had oil everywhere as the new one did not seal. Removed the filter, found the problem and fixed it. Haven't had any other problems

Miesk5, that is a fantastic article on oil filters!!! I have read some discussions on other forums, and the general consensus seems to be that the MotorCraft filters are best for the Bronco engines. I personally have not used Fram or MotorCraft filters for 20+ years since i started using the Wix brand. We use them on all of the farm equipment, too. Regardless of the brand, next time you change the filter cut it open to see if there's any metal filings or sludge build-up in the element. Minw was totally bolcked with sludge and chocolate-milk looking oil when I blew the intake manifold-head gasket on my 84 351W. There weren't any metal filings in the filter, but several chunks in the oil pan. JSM84

Well, I'm sure that everyone has their own opinion on the issue so here's mine. For stock or basically stock engines (like what I have in my 88') I generally just buy a handfull of whatever's cheapest and change them out every 1K or so. Pull the filter, toss in another quart and be done with it. For engines that I *care* about I use Oberg filters. When I raced my truck and was building competition engines my machinist turned me onto them and the freaking things are simply amazing. I love them and use one every time I have an engine I want to hang onto or one that I care about. Dual filter adapters are a good compromise but nothing beats an Oberg filter. For anyone who's interested here's the link.

Additionally, anyone with a truck they plan to hang onto long-term should perhaps consider a remote transmission filter. They can easily be plumbed in a day and a single or dual filter application in addition to the pan filter can make a significant difference over the long-haul. Just something to kick around.
