I have been troubleshooting a bothersome problem in my ‘96 EB Bronco where the door chime rings with the drivers door open and ignition key removed. There were several possible causes but I finally identified and fixed the problem. In addition to the ground contact attached to the outside of the ignition cylinder, there is a small additional external wire and contact that clips on to the cylinder. The contact needed to be bent slightly toward the cylinder so it had more tension for the ground. I removed it, bent and retensioned the contact finger, then reinstalled it. The contact weakly snaps into a slot. To test, I removed the key from the cylinder with the door open and the problem was solved. Here is a link to a helpful YouTube video someone made and 2 photos I took of the contact.
