OKay checked compression first hit takes it to 90 then builds to about 120 after 4 strokes i might have low compression in one cylinder but my cheap gauge broke so not sure yet. There is fuel the truck sat for quite some time so we drained the tank and put 91 octane back in, pulled top of carb and the bowl is filling properly. Engine idles slightly rough when i get down on the gas it sounds good to me but then i put it in gear and it feels like the parking brake is set (though it is not cuz I can push the bronc) give it some gas in gear and the motor dies. Tranny was rebuilt 3 years ago before it was parked probably 100 miles on it tops. SOme suggestions rolling in from friends of friends are that the timing is still jacked. But dont know them well enough to get them over to help and other suggestions. Should i unplug the eegr on the rear of the motor.

Clean the carb real good. If it set for a long time the fuel may have strted to become varnish and clogged the carb ports. Also, do a tune up according the the emissions sticker on the radiator support. If it is a aftermarket carb, set the idle mixture then the cold idle speed and then the curb idle. What year is it , what engine is in it, and what carb does it have ?

Also, the dash *** may be toast if it is an old carb.

We rebuilt the carb. This thing is a 351 windsor with stock 2 brl carb on it. 1985 having problems following the chart on the radiator support. I am okay with cars but not my speciality. Thanks for the help seabronc i will try that today when i get off of work. You guys dont think it is a bad tranny or stuck trnasfer case right?

have you tried dropping it into gear at like 2000 rpm or maybe pulling it in neutral at like 5-10 mph and then throwing it in gear? sounds like it is just a bit sticky from sitting so long, but i'd think a 351 would have the power to get it moving...

Yeah we tried both of those but unfortunately it just sputters makes a huge racket then dies. Friend of a friend says it sounds like maybe the coil is starting to fail so we are getting a weak spark. Thing is i sold it to a friend 4 years ago, when i sold it to him it had tranny problems. He rebuilt the trans at a shop but then decided it had a leak in the intake manifold. SO he took it apart now it wont run. I know that guy messed something up not sure if it is thecarb or something with the timing/ignition. I have the thick film integrated ignition system (no idea what the **** that means) trying to read what the **** could be wrong with it. If anyone knows what amps the system should draw or what amps the plugs wires should be or something i can check that goes wrong and kills my engine please help

If it revs up, runs up, and all that while in park.....I wouldnt look to the engine....what you are describing sounds like a stuck E-brake or brake calipers.......

If you can roll it.....torque converter may be frozen from sitting.......It definitely sounds drivetrain...not engine.....now if it won't rev up or run strong in park, I would look elsewhere. But, especially when you said your friend had the tranny out....something is frozen somewhere......

OKay messed around with the ignition system last night found some bad wires and a coil that was on its death bed. Engine sounds a lot better tonight. Put it in 4wd Low gears and it idles all over the place nothing is stuck in the drivetrain for sure. MIght have run bad gas after the carb rebuild so we are going to rebuild it again. Also might have to replace the ICM mounted on the distributor. We are trying to follow the instructions by the radiator to set all the idles but still having problems with all that mess. LIsten all you carb heads need some help on the carb. There are two ajustment screws on the underside, one under the filter and one under the dash *** which one adjusts what and where the heck are they supposed to be. Trying to do this cheap and without mechanics THank all of you for help and suggestions

Actually located in the inland empire. Dont know anything in LA area. I used to drive down to oceanside cuz there is a bad ass truck graveyard down there. just trucks and suv's only really nice, right off of the 76 lemme know if you are interested. Why so much stock stuff? Just curious. Does anyone on here know how to set the dashboard clock on one of these things. I cannot figure it out. Also passenger window does not work right motor spins but window does not move

inland empire- my girlfriend's sister lives out there. may have to "suggest" a trip to go visit her. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i updated my signature with my current goals. funny they seem to change daily...

i think when it's all done the only thing left that will be totally stock is the interior (IF i can find a stock grey drivers seat- otherwise corbeaus look good to me for what i need) and bumpers and trim and exhaust (except for muffler).

my dad is a stickler for 100% restoration (70 chevelle SS and a 47 ford coupe are his keepers after many years and many resto projects totally stock down to the smallest nut and bolt.) and in a way it rubbed off slightly. i like the way the bronco looked off the assembly line. but, the more i dig into it i love the way certain things look and add to performance- like a lift and bigger tires. so i have a little of his ideal in me still. funny after 38 years i still want him to appreciate what i do when i work on a restoration. he's more of a car guy though i am, have been and always will be a truck man myself.

for paint - mine is YY white- and i do like white after having dark colored trucks my whole life - less visible scratches. but, i think i'll go white but pearl white instead.

for now i'll get the engine rebuilt to original specs and the tranny and drivetrain too- will probably upgrade gearings to accomodate the bigger tires though. just don't need a hot rod engine. this is still a mostly daily driver. who knows when it's all done i may go back in a few years and rethink that too.

so i think it will probably end up 50/50 on the stock thing when it's all said and done.

as far as the clock my 90 does not have one. is it digital?

the window arm may be off the window track or the gears that attach the arm to the window may be broken or maybe the arm has come off completely. best way to tell is just pop the door panel off. it's easy to pop off just make sure not to crack it. reinstalling the panel is fairly easy too just make sure to get the fasteners lined up and pop them back into place. sometimes they'll get stuck in the door when you pull it off.

enjoy the bronco they're the best and even though i'm a ways of from finishing mine it is in excellent shape mechanically and cosmetically, and i get compliments and looks of envy all the time. especially with the top off here when we have that beautiful so cal weather.

get a nice sounding exhaust too it's always fun every mornng to try and set my neighbors car alarms off on the way to work. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

My Bronc has a funny story I bought it back in 2001 or so then after just running the crap out of it sold it to a buddy. He parked it and started trying to fix it but only made things worse. I have been wanting to find something to go off roading with the wife and kids, so I called him up and bought it back for 250 less than what he paid and he put a rebuilt tranny in it. I made out somewhat. The body is fairly straight no real dents or anything. Gonna repaint it pretty original which is red and white with a white top. My wife hates this thing but she will learn to love it? The interior isn't too bad except where the sun hit the tops of the door panels for 21 years that is looking really bad. I dont want to put too much money into the cosmetics of the things. I will be putting a new muffler and all that jazz and making it a reliable off road vehicle but as far as looks I am a function over form kind of guy. But I am doing the repaint myself inexpensive and almost same quality beside when i get trail paintings down the side I wont cry about it i will just pull out the rattle can and fix er. Eventually will raise it a little and replace the 31's with something a little bigger. No nerf bars or side steps or any jazz like that. Maybe a nice roof rack for the camper one day to hold the jack and shovel and of course a winch someday when my wife lets me spend that much money. My father in law and i are doing an oil change and greasing everything tomorrow. Checking all the fluids and all that. Need to install an alarm too. SO anyways if you want directions to that truck graveyard just let me know. It will be a nice little drive with the top off for a saturday morning most of the way to San Diego. But I think worth it.

Yeah that clock is digital tried pushing all of the buttons in every order i could

yeah trail paintings one reason why i want to stay with white. had a forrest green 96 f150 and took it quail and dove hunting all the time. the first few times after getting those texas pinstripes i'd spend all day after buffing them out. after a few years i just gave up! now i stick with white :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />.

if i could see that clock i could do it for you. electronics are my bag. doesn't help i know. usually it's a matter of holding down one button (or 2) and waiting for it to blink- then adjusting it. someone here has to know though.

i'll let you know when i'm ready to check out that salvage yard.

good luck.

Sounds good man, my father in law says there is one like that in fontana too which is over here by ontario. Pulled the lockers to day and re greased all the bearings and checked everything out. Man did that turn out to be more than i wanted to get into but all finished okay. Got an oil leak now from the drain plug damn thing wont get very tight need to fix that crap tomorrow taped all of my door locks today so now they close good and dont rattle so much. NOt too much longer and then it is paint time which will make the old lady happy she says she is embarrassed to ride in it. take it easy bros
