efi swap

I just bought my 76 Bronco with a 302 and was wanting to swap carb for an efi system. Will an efi system from a Mustang that will fit that I could possibly pick up from a salvage yard? If so what would have to be bought aftermarket to make it work in my 76 Bronco? Any advice would be aprreciated.

It will slide right in there. It is actually the same height as the carb is, so you don't need a body lift. You need to get everything that is associted with the EFI system. The harness, EEC, any and all sensors, intake manifold, plenum, fuel rails, and I would even get those heads. Look for any 5.0 system really, 'stang, cougar, grand marquis...any will bolt directly onto your block. The more desireable is the mass air system, but the speed density system is great as well, that is what I have been running for about 5 years. The mass air is easy to identify because of the fuel injectors, they are orange where the SD unit is either grey or black. Hope that helps you some.

Thanks that will help me tremendously. Next question, will a return fuel line need to be run and if so how do you do it with duel tanks?

Yes, you have to run a return line. You need to get a 4-port inlet/2-port outlet fuel switch. The 4 ports will obviously be on the tank side and the 2 on the engine side. Your return lines can be run into the emissions tubes on the tanks themselves. The problem that I had, and couldn't figure out, was that the return fuel would fill up the opposite tank. Even if I switched the return lines at the fuel switch, it still did the same thing. Since, I have removed the switch and run only off the rear tank, but if I were you, spend the few dollars more and buy a quality fuel switch so you don't have that problem. You will also need to use the same size fuel line that is in the donor vehicle because your stock fuel lines are not large enough to supply the proper pressure/fuel. I used steel brake lines that I bent for my fuel lines because rubber will always crack out and is a pain to replace every year. Another issue you will have is fuel pressure. Be sure to either get the fuel pump (if it is an external pump) or find a donor car that has an external pump and get it. I used an '86 Bronco II fuel pump for my EFI (87 Merc. Grand Marquis - speed density)
