Hi Everyone,
I thought I would post a resolution that might interest someone. I have an 85 Bronco, 300 CID 6.
Over the past year I have asked 2 questions on this forum that I recently resolved. They were both regarding dim lights. I had asked how to get into the dash to replace lights without having to remove the entire dash. I thought maybe some had burnt out things were so dull there. It was difficult to tell how fast I was going at night. I also asked for opinions on what headlights to get to improve the old technology. I have a newer van too and much preferred driving that at night.
I replaced dash lights, headlights, and neither improved much. The headlights were better but nothing to write about.
I had the alternator checked by a couple of places and it checked out fine. I cleaned all of the ground points and even added one between the hood and the firewall. I also cleaned all of the contacts or plugs for the lights and put on fresh dielectric grease.
Last week my alternator quit entirely and when replaced all the lights were GREAT. Man those new headlights certainly are better too. >
So if anyone is experiencing this type of problem, it might be your alternator even though it seems to 'check out' fine.
