Dash Lights

Can anybody tell me if the rear window (tailgate) switch and the push button 4x4 switch on the dash have lights in them. Nether of mine light up when the headlights are on. I kind of think there should be because my rear window defrost switch lights up.

Also is there some kind of light in the gear shifter that tells me the OD is on or off? And if yes how do you change it or make it work?

for the rear window no there is no light but the four whell drive yea there should be a light for it. and there is no light for OD for what i know.

I have the dash lights that indicate when I'm in 4H or 4L. Just thought there should be a light in the switch itself to see what your poking.

Thanks for that miesk5. I guess if all else fails read the book. I did notice the little "Off" light on the gear shift. Does the end of the gear shift just pop off?

yo Mike,

yw; it pops off using thin blade; hold it in right hand while prying it off bec. if I recall it is spring loaded.

Once, a fuse blew due to a harness short under strg column that affected the OD Cancel Light (it blinked randomly, no Trouble Codes or tranny malfunctions though); think it was 6 or 7.

more TCIL info since I have time;

E4ODO/D Cancel Light Malfunction(92 & Later Only)Several different complaints concerning the overdrive cancel indicator may occur due to a faulty O/D cancel LED. At times the light may simply fail to light, flicker erratically, or glow very dim. Tapping the shift **** lightly may affect the operation of the LED, causing it tot work temporarily.These complaints are usually due to a faulty O/D indicator LED. To replace the LED carefully pry the cap off the end of the shifter and pull the LED/switch out. Slide the new switch into position and snap the cap back on.Note: Don?t confuse the above conditions with a steady flashing pattern of the O/D cancel light. A steady rhythmic flashing pattern indicates a malfunction has been detected by the computer.
