Not sure if I have to swap yet?/? I have a 351w in my F-150 that I want to put in, But not till I have to...My Bronco is from Cali as well. Why do I need a tps on a six with a one barrel carb??? I understand the computer stuff on a fuelie But come on its a six. My wife and I moved here in 05.Ya I would love to go on a trail ride we just moved here about 2 months ago . what are you swapping out? I see that you have a Six would that work on my 8? Yes I want to get back to basics. If you are willing to seperate with some of your stuff and if it would work on mine I would love to have it.
You need a TPS because it is a computer controlled engine. That is not pollution stuff, it is there to tell the computer how far you have the peddle depressed. That along with other inputs are what allow a computer to run the engine. If you would like a good course on EFI go to Ryan's site at http://www.fordfuelinjection.com, I just wouldn't recommend buying stuff from him. It is a frustrating experience and you can get the stuff he sells other places on the net. It took me 3 months to get my money back for stuff he never shipped and would not respond to emails asking for status. He is a smart guy and knows his stuff but he just isn't a business man.Not sure if I have to swap yet?/? I hear you, that's basically why I have a carbed engine. I have never had my engine refuse to run because some stupid sensor was broken. In my experience, the more things that depend on electronics the higher the failure rate is, and it is not usually the operating circuitry that is broken but a bad sensor or indicator. You can do a lot more with it carbed engine without having to have a computer programmer around to set up a program to get it running the way you want it. However, once a computer is properly programmed it can be a heck of a lot more efficient in controlling the engine because it looks at all the information and makes adjustments thousands of times per second. The factory settings definitely are a compromise between demand for performance and emissions laws with enough power for the average driver to think he/she has a hot car, (I see them every day on my way to and from work, passing me like I'm standing still). For sport, every now and then, I take my 93 Turbo Sundance Duster to work and have yet had one of the new ricers been able to out accelerate or pass me until I let them. The fun thing is to get their adrenelin up, get them up to 90 or 100 MPH and back off while they go sailing by a cop  . I know where a Trooper friend set every morningThanks for the info Seabronc, I'm not much for computers on cars, I understand the principles of why, but why? Case in point, my 68 F-100 whenever someone was silly enough to race me I would advace my timing just enough to get that extra punch off the line or I could ****** it for long highway trips. My chilton on my bronco says DONT TOUCH the distributor as the timing is not adjustable? So I'm stuck with what the EEC gives me? I actually dont mind the smog stuff I dont like the computer stuff. All a carb does is mix fuel and air at a specified ratio depending on jetting, Why do I now need 12 different sensors to take part in that. I guess I'm my dads kid, He always had the old stuff around 64s 66s thats what I grew up working on.
Ford aught to be doing it well since they were the pioneer in the field and have the most experience. There is nothing wrong with their computers, it's just that a carbed engine is more tolerant to performance changes and sensors don't keep them from running or mess up how they run. It also takes a little more knowledge and skill with a carbed engine to make a carb run at it's peak for how you want to run and that is much more than jetting. After all the fun is in the skill and lighting the cigar afterward while repeating the famous line from The A Team, "I love it when a plan comes together"i didnt use to like computers and cars, but the more i mess with this bronco the more amazed i am at how good the computer really is. i will take a day of adjusting sensors over a day of carb jetting any day.
