hi, thanks again for all who provided advice on my last question(clutch engagement, solved)...i live in NJ, and the weather is getting colder, as some of u may know, i'm still new to this truck...anyhow, I have trouble starting the engine at first, especially when its below 50 degrees(1st start overnight ). i noticed that the choke cable was disconnected frfom the carb. It is there just wrapped up in a circle. I have never really attempted this before(hooking up a choke cable) and advice?....

2nd question while I'm at it- my valve covers(which have edelbrock embossed on top has a breather cap with a rubber hose that runs to the air filter...the cap is leakin oil and smoking, normal???

If all the parts are there, it shouldn't be too hard to do. Just check the range of motion after it is hooked up. The choke should just barely open when the cable is in the closed position and wide open in the open position.

No that is not normal, the flow should be from the intake to the oil reservoir, up the other side to the PCV valve and then to the base of the carb. I'd first check the PCV valve and hose from it to the carb to make sure one of them is not clogged. The low pressure at the base of the carb should **** air through the system from the intake and the fumes you see should be burned in the engine.

Another cause of oil coming out that side is pressure in the oil pan caused by blow by in the cylinders. I

Good luck,

:)>-

You're doing fine..!

One thing YOU could do to help.., is fill-in your sig. page..., & all info you know about your truck.

i.e. if the carb. isn't stock..it may have an auto. choke..? You'll prob. have to look at any other veh. that has a manual choke to see the idea. (if yours is in fact, manual)

"has a breather cap with a rubber hose that runs to the air filter...the cap is leakin oil and smoking, normal??"

Is there oil inside the air filt. housing as well..? Is there a PCV valve (with a hose) elsewhere on either valve cover..?

Is the smoke coming out of the cap... or oil running down to the exhaust & smoking there.....? Is the cap sealed.., or stuffed with filter material..?

Something doesn't sound right here...?

turns out, I cant make out what type of carb is on the engine(looked for serieal # and any letters, none...there seems to be a servo motor on the left side of the carb, but no wires hooked to it...and the linkage that is connected to this part of the carb(connects to the butterfly valve) is not connected...going to need a mechanic on this one.i took the air filter off the carb and disconnected the hose that is clamped to the breather cap-checked the breather cap, hose and connector to the carb/airfilter-no blockage, but when i put all back together, abd held it down with my hand, the fumes were no existent(they were there, just runing into the carb) so maybe i need a new tighter cap? Thanks again ..drove her all weekend and had a blast!

I checked the carb, no noticable seriel #'s or lettering, it has what looks like a servo motor on the left side of its body, but no wires connect to it/ also the linkage that connects for choke(butterfly valve) is connected-looks like i need a mechanic.....

the oil cap, is only on the right side of the block, it is not sealed(filled with what looks like horse hair, ...there is no oil in side the carb(air filter housing...smoke is coming outside the cap, i disconnected all parts and checked for blockage, none....reconnected everything and ran the engine, smoking from the cap again, BUT when I applied hand pressure the smoke was gone(sealed), I guess i need a tighter fitting cap?

my bronco is a 71' sport, w/ 302, 2bbl carb(not sure, maybe oem?), flame thrower ignition coil...original 3 speed trans, converted to hurst floor shifter, converted power steering, same w/ front disc brakes...4 inch lift, james duffy 19.5" shocks, 33 inch tires....original interior w/ roll bar(hard top)...the body had a lot of work done on it, red/white color combo-beautiful.....she is my first, and I'm addicted....

Good job...!!

You'll be an expert B/4 long...

The info. you included.......you can enter it in your signature page. (Look at Seabronc's above)

It can be changed as necessary, over time. (It's shows every time you post)

That way.., when you need help..folks will know up front, what we're deal'n with.

Yes., that does sound like the stock 2brl carb.

Yes, thats plastizied horse/hogs hair. Makes for a good air inlet filter.

If any mechanic tells you anything odd...come back here & ask B/4 you commit...for obvious reasons.

Nice set-up.! have fun with it....
