You're doing fine..!One thing YOU could do to help.., is fill-in your sig. page..., & all info you know about your truck.
i.e. if the carb. isn't stock..it may have an auto. choke..? You'll prob. have to look at any other veh. that has a manual choke to see the idea. (if yours is in fact, manual)
"has a breather cap with a rubber hose that runs to the air filter...the cap is leakin oil and smoking, normal??"
Is there oil inside the air filt. housing as well..? Is there a PCV valve (with a hose) elsewhere on either valve cover..?
Is the smoke coming out of the cap... or oil running down to the exhaust & smoking there.....? Is the cap sealed.., or stuffed with filter material..?
Something doesn't sound right here...?
I checked the carb, no noticable seriel #'s or lettering, it has what looks like a servo motor on the left side of its body, but no wires connect to it/ also the linkage that connects for choke(butterfly valve) is connected-looks like i need a mechanic.....
the oil cap, is only on the right side of the block, it is not sealed(filled with what looks like horse hair, ...there is no oil in side the carb(air filter housing...smoke is coming outside the cap, i disconnected all parts and checked for blockage, none....reconnected everything and ran the engine, smoking from the cap again, BUT when I applied hand pressure the smoke was gone(sealed), I guess i need a tighter fitting cap?
my bronco is a 71' sport, w/ 302, 2bbl carb(not sure, maybe oem?), flame thrower ignition coil...original 3 speed trans, converted to hurst floor shifter, converted power steering, same w/ front disc brakes...4 inch lift, james duffy 19.5" shocks, 33 inch tires....original interior w/ roll bar(hard top)...the body had a lot of work done on it, red/white color combo-beautiful.....she is my first, and I'm addicted....
